Neue Welt by Wolfgang Tillmans( Book )

7 editions published in 2012 in 3 languages and held by 164 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Over the period of more than two decades, Wolfgang Tillmans has explored the medium of photo-imaging with greater range than any other artist of his generation. From snapshots of his friends to abstract images made in a darkroom without a camera or works made with a photocopier, he has pushed the photographic process to its outer limits in myriad ways. For this collection of photos, his fourth book with TASCHEN, Tillmans turned away from the self-reflexive exploration of the photography medium that had occupied him for several years by focusing his lens on the outside world - from London and Nottingham to Tierra del Fuego, Tasmania, Saudi Arabia, and Papua New Guinea. He describes this new phase simply as 'trying out what the camera can do for me, what I can do for it.' The result is a powerful and singular view of life today in diverse parts of the world, seen from many angles. Says Tillmans, 'My travels are aimless as such, not looking for predetermined results, but hoping to find subject matter that in some way or other speaks about the time I'm in.' The book features a fascinating conversation between the artist and Beatrix Ruf, director of Kunsthalle Zürich."--Publisher's description

The oasis of Matisse by Henri Matisse( Book )

2 editions published in 2015 in English and held by 152 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Stedelijk has conceived a unique exhibition concept for this survey: the permanent collection on the museum's ground floor will be enriched with a selection of Henri Matisse's (1868-1854) classic pieces, creating surprising combinations with the work of his contemporaries, teachers, and followers. At the heart of this exhibition is one of the most popular works in the Stedelijk's collection: the monumental paper cut-out The Parakeet and the Mermaid (1952-1953). This iconic artwork is presented alongside other cut-outs by Matisse and rarely-exhibited works in fabric and stained glass inspired by them. Exhibition: Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, The Netherlands (27.03. - 16.08.2015)

Parse by John Baldessari( Book )

6 editions published between 2009 and 2010 in English and held by 148 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"John Baldessari (born 1931) is a luminary in the realms of Conceptual art and book art, and one of the most important figures in contemporary art of the last 40 years. Since his sensational Cremation Project of 1970, for which he incinerated every single painting he had made between 1953 and 1966, Baldessari's work has mined the tensions between language, image and sign-making. Baldessari unpicks the very mechanisms of media representation, and even the idea of artistic subject matter itself, using painting, photography, film/video, collage and reliefs, integrating images and text from advertising and movies into his works. Since 1980, Baldessari has worked mostly without text in serial photographs and pictures, and strategies such as overpainting, visual omissions and withheld information have increasingly taken on the earlier function of language. For this superbly designed book, Baldessari has designed a sequence of enigmatically fragmentary and geometrically emphatic images, arranged rhythmically across the volume's landscape format, that slowly accrete narrative as the reader-viewer moves through the book. These fragments, derived largely from B-movie stills, lead into a second chapter that reproduces the complete pictures. Juggling these themes of composition, information, omission and rhythm, Parse consolidates Baldessari's signature concerns into a great work of book art." [Publisher's statement]
Günther Förg : a fragile beauty by Günther Förg( Book )

3 editions published in 2018 in English and held by 129 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Gunther Förg (1952-2013) was a German painter, sculptor, and photographer with an irreverent approach to abstraction. Förg's project tackled the latent instability between image and reality. His painterly surfaces may appear exquisitely sensitive, his installations elegantly precise, but these are mastered and executed with a cold detachment. His deft manipulations of the languages of abstraction obscured a darker message. This publication, the most comprehensive to date, offers an important new understanding of this extraordinary and complex artist. Three years in the making, it reinterprets Förg's oeuvre to reveal an artistic project that raises important questions about the traditional role of an object as a conveyor of fixed meaning. The book's subtitle--"A Fragile Beauty"--is an indication of how Förg successfully manipulated what is behind and beyond an object's appearance

Sonne, Mond und Sterne by Peter Fischli( Book )

7 editions published between 2007 and 2008 in German and English and held by 115 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Tiré du site Internet de JRP/Ringier: "This new artists' book by the celebrated Swiss artist-duo gathers 800 images inspired by magazine advertisements. Designed by NORM in close collaboration with the artists, the book, stemming from Fischli/Weiss' contribution to the Ringier AG Annual Report 2007, is a very generous if slightly nauseating collection of photos, slogans, and messages that constitute our contemporary media landscape. Organized in loose categories, they plunge the reader in a flow of images whose commercial dimension recedes to let their (often unplanned) narrative qualities freely develop into an unlikely account of life's journey."
