An outstanding collection of short novels and stories by one of the masters of the Western story. H.A. DeRosso is described as "a poet of the Western shadowlands" by Bill Pronzini, the editor, and himself an author of several notable Western novels and stories. In The Bounty Hunter, Spurr is faced by a dilemma after being duped by scalphunters into believing he has killed his own son. He is rescued from certain death in the desert by a young Apache woman whose family has been murdered by those same scalphunters. Spurr becomes obsessed with finding his wife and true son after he learns that they were abducted by Comanches fifteen years before, all this time believing his wife had left him for another man. Those Bloody Bells of Hell! tells of Lin Carmody, a man who believes he has lost everything only to find himself in Old Mexico, inspired by the singular courage and strength of Raquel, a Mexican revolutionary. These and other stories by H.A. DeRosso have been gethered for the first time by Bill Pronzini in this collection
