The Homicide Research Working Group (HRWG) is dedicated to examining the causes, correlates, and potential for curbing the incidence of both homicide and violent behavior. The 1999 meeting of the HRWG had two goals: to enhance the state of knowledge relative to homicide and violence in society and to identify strategies to prevent such behavior now and in the future. Meeting participants considered papers and oral presentations on the following topics (with selected subtopics): (1) Methodology of Historical Studies (estimating the accuracy of historical data); (2) Homicides Against Women (legal reactions to intimate partner homicide); (3) Homicide Perpetrators and Victims (the nature of expressiveness and instrumentality in homicide); (4) Gun-Related Research and Research in Progress (a typology of lethal and nonlethal injury); and (5) Multiple Murder (murder for hire).
