Completions of Mozart aria fragments by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart( )

13 editions published between 2012 and 2015 in 3 languages and held by 495 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Stanley Sadie's fascination with Mozart's unfinished compositions preoccupied him all his life. During his last decade, Sadie turned his attention to a number of arias that Mozart left unfinished or that survive incomplete, and by the end of 1998, he had completed nine arias in orchestral score, as presented in this volume. Seven are for soprano and two are for tenor. Included are three discarded arias from Mitridate; three arias about whose origins little is known, K. 119/382h, K. 440/383h, and K. 435/416b; a rejected insertion aria for an Anfossi opera, K. 178/417a; the abandoned act-4 rondò for Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro; and an unfinished insertion aria for a Paisiello opera, K. 580. Eight of these arias have been performed in public venues, some more than once, between 1999 and 2009, and it is hoped that this edition will provide the basis for more performances of these attractive works in the future." --

8 editions published in 2005 in English and held by 258 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Words About Mozart is published as a tribute to the late Stanley Sadie, musicologist, critic and editor of The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians. Of the eleven essays presented here, three focus on compositional matters: Julian Rushton examines the dramatic meaning of a recurring motif in Idomeneo; Elaine Sisman sifts through the facts surrounding the genesis of Mozart's 'Haydn' quartets; and Simon Keefe matches up pairs of piano sonatas and concertos on the basis of their common compositional features. Cliff Eisen considers some problems of performing practice posed by the solo keyboard parts in Mozart's concertos, and Robert Philip surveys tempo fluctuations in a selection of historical recordings. Felicity Baker's detailed analysis of aspects of the Don Giovanni libretto is a welcome contribution from the field of literary criticism. Three studies offer new archival research: Neal Zaslaw uncovers the background to one of Mozart's nonsense compositions; Dorothea Link examines the Viennese Hofkapelle and creates a new context for understanding Mozart's court appointment; and Theodore Albrecht proposes a candidate for Mozart's Zauberflötist. Christina Bashford considers an aspect of Mozart reception in 19th-century England connected with John Ella, and Peter Branscombe presents a comprehensive overview of research published since the bicentenary in 1991. The volume includes a full bibliography of Stanley Sadie's publications and broadcasts [Publisher description]
Arias for Stefano Mandini : Mozart's first Count Almaviva( )

8 editions published in 2015 in Italian and Undetermined and held by 251 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The thirteen arias presented in this volume portray the voice of Stefano Mandini (1705/56-ca. 1799), who created the role of Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro in 1786. Dating from the peak of Mandini's career in the 1780s, the arias, composed by Sarti, Paisiello, Gazzaniga, Guglielmi, Salieri, and Martín y Soler, show a versatile singer who sang roles in both tenor and baritone ranges. All the arias are presented in the form of vocal scores, some taken from eighteenth-century editions and some made from orchestral scores." --

Chinese piano concertos from 1936 to 2010 by Yan Kou( )

1 edition published in 2018 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

The Chinese piano concerto has only existed since 1936. For much of its existence its cultivation was sporadic, but in the last four decades the Chinese piano concerto has blossomed along with the research of the genre. This study provides a brief history of the Chinese piano concerto. It also presents an overview of existing scholarship on the subject, both in English and Chinese. Finally, this study illustrates the compositional problems faced by Chinese composers writing in a Western genre with analysis of three representative concertos. The three concertos are: (1) Jiang Wenye's Piano Concerto No. 1, Op. 16 (1936); (2) Yellow River Piano Concerto (1969), arranged by Yin Chengzong, Chu Wanghua, Sheng Lihong, Liu Zhuang, Xu Peixing, and Shi Shucheng from Yellow River Cantata composed by Xian Xinghai in 1939; and (3) Zhao Xiaosheng's Piano Concerto No. 1, "Aphrodite" (1985)
