A maquette (i.e. usually a small model of an intended work such as a sculpture) commissioned by the National Capital Development Commission and created by Len Shillam. "Threshold" depicts a reclining figure designed to appear from a distance like one of the rocky outcrops of the Canberra region. The artist's objective was to create a sculpture that would fit the modern style of contemporary Canberra architecture. The actual sandstone sculpture took four months to complete and weighs three and a half tons. It was installed at the Constitution Avenue entrance of the Canberra Technical College in 1966

A maquette (usuallya small model of an intended work, such as a sculpture or piece of architecture) of the artist's work entitled 'Exile'. "In 1966 Transfield sponsored the Society of Sculptors and Associates N.S.W. sculpture exhibition in Hyde Park, Sydney. Len Shillam entered a massed, welded, steel structure entitled Exile. [The artist] achieved tension with hands thrust forward from two crouching armour clad figures, as though reaching for some unattainable spirit." --- Forms entwined ... / Dorothy Hartnett / Dorothy Hartnett.
