The implementation of ultrafast MRI has dramatically impacted clinical MR practice. Faster image acquisition has resulted in greater patient throughput and higher image quality, particularly in regions subject to respiratory motion. In addition, ultrafast techniques proffer new insight into function and morphology of organ systems by providing the basis for cerebral perfusion and diffusion imaging as well as virtual 3D MR colonography and gastrography . The book attempts to bridge the gap dividing MR scientists into physicists and clinicians. It has been written for both. Based on schematic drawings, underlying pulse sequence designs and hardware considerations are illustrated. Strategies for implementing these techniques into clinical protocols are described for neurologic, cardiac, vascular and abdominal applications

Until now, cMRI have shown limitations about the management of multiple sclerosis (MS) because there is not correlation between lesion load visible on MRI images and clinical score EDSS that defines the severity of handicap of a patient with multiple sclerosis. The diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), by quantifying mean diffusivity of water and the degree of anisotropy of tissues characterized by fractional anisotropy in the central nervous system, gives in vivo information about physiopathological modifications of MS. But to this day, no marker can predict with certitude the evolution of pathology. Hence, robust markers that may surely describe the disease process are needed in order to improve the physiopathological comprehension of MS and establish a prognostic. The objective of this thesis was to realise a DTI study in NAWM and GM of patients with remitting-relapsing multiple sclerosis by using new mathematic indices: the Skewness (S) and the Kurtosis (K) and compare them with usual histograms quantifications: peak position and peak height. From a methodological point of view, the results of a first short term study: 3 months have shown that whereas there was not clinical evolution, the S index may reflect a significant alteration of GM over this short period. A group of healthy subjects did not show such modifications. The modifications of S, if the clinical evolution was confirmed, may be a marker of the disease evolution before repercussion on clinical score EDSS

Traumatic reticuloperitonitis is a substantial disease taking in account the number of cattle concerned and the induced lesions on cattle organs. This leads to productive looses all the more severe that it turns to a chronic evolution. That is why it is convenient to set a precise diagnostic in animal husbandry, so the farmer can take an adequate decision concerning the future of his animal. Ultrasonography is a technic that has developed a lot in the last few years and is now reachable to every veterinary practitioner. The purpose of this study is to determine its reliability in traumatic reticuloperitonitis diagnostic in cattle admitted at the ENVT farm hospital. We based our work on 38 cases seen between the years 2011 and 2013. Ultrasonography was performed on standing animal using a 3,5 to 5 MHz linear transducer. Characteristics watched carefully are reticular and ruminal wall state, reticular mobility and prospective inflammatory signs presence. To combine clinical exam and ultrasonography leads to: Se = 0,80, Sp = 0,47, PPV = 0,64, NPV = 0,67. To combine clinical exam, ultrasonography and plasmatic biochemical values leads to : Se = 1, Sp = 0,38, PPV = 0,62, NPV = 1

In the medical field, over the past two decades, a growing number of quantitative image analysis have been developed including regions of interest analysis, voxel-by-voxel analysis and histogram analysis. The latter is widely use in Multiple Sclerosis research to quantify the diffuse pathological prominent in this disease. A disadvantage of this approach is that all the information included in the histogram is not exploited; only arbitrary measures are chosen to describe the histogram; including the average, the median, the percentiles... Thus, first, we proposed to integrate in a classifier all the information included in the histogram and not just some local descriptors, in order to improve the classification performance of the Multiple Sclerosis populations (i.e. groups in therapeutic trials and in fine groups at different prognosis). Thereafter, given that the histogram is an overly simplistic estimate of a probability distribution, we present one of the possible applications of information geometry on probability distributions and we demonstrate the interest of using non-Euclidean geometry in the context of the Alzheimer's disease population classification. Furthermore, we have made the analogy with the field of aeronautics, specifically in the study of flight delays. Indeed, the analysis currently carried out is at a macroscopic level and provides an indicator of average delay, without considering the intermediate mechanisms that may lead to the final delays. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) allows to measure in the 3 dimensions the dose delivered to irradiated polymer gels. This information would be very useful to improve either the accuracy of non-sealed sources dosimetry (NSSD) or quantitative scintigraphy. To our knowledge MRI gel dosimetry is mainly carried out by research units and its usefulness for NSSD has to be established. The aim of our study is to assess the accuracy of gel dosimetry in a clinical environment (imported gel, restricted access to a clinical MRI, data analysis without dedicated software) and to find a way to use this kind of gel for NSSD. For this purpose we analyse the reproducibility of R2 measurements depending on the size of the voxel, the position of the gel inside the coil and the methods used to calculate relaxation times. The accuracy of our measurement is in good acceptance with literature except in cases of low relaxation times (i.e. high doses) and high dose gradient deposition

La radiothérapie thoracique est rendue complexe par la présence d'épaisseurs importantes et d'organes très sensibles. Elle a bénéficié des avancées de la radiothérapie conformationnelle puis du contrôle de la respiration. La validation dosimétrique des conditions cliniques, à l'aide de fantômes anthropomorphiques, a consisté à réaliser des simulations dosimétriques avec trois types de volumes cibles, trois indices de qualité, trois densités de volumes pulmonaires et l'irradiation avec modulation d'intensité. Les mesures, conduites à l'aide de films radiochromiques ont permis d'évaluer l'algorithme utilisé pour des configurations proches des conditions de traitements. Des recommandations, issues de ce travail, concernent les choix d'indices de qualité, le calcul analytique en présence de faibles densités, les méthodes de validations dosimétriques et la pratique de la modulation d'intensité
