"This funny yet serious short film demonstrates the effectiveness of advertising and the marketing machine. Its comic appeal lies in the characters and the absurd situations they find themselves in, but it also shines a harsh light on our tendency towards needless consumerism prompted by a steady flow of commercials."
Balablok by National Film Board of Canada( Visual )

4 editions published between 1972 and 2008 in English and Undetermined and held by 25 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A delightful cartoon on the theme of the non-acceptance of creatures who differ in some way from what is the norm in any society. It tells of a group of rectangular blocks who encounter a group of round balls. Mutual intolerance results in a pitched battle, after which all of them end up as hexagons. Now that conformity is achieved there should be no further problems, but then a pyramid comes along ... Awards: International Film Festival, Cannes

This is a play on motion, against a multi-hued sky, by animation artists Norman McLaren and René Jodoin. Spheres of translucent pearl seem to float weightlessly in the unlimited panorama of the sky, grouping, regrouping, and at times colliding like some stylized burst of an atomic chain reaction. This airy dance is set to the musical cadences of Bach, played by pianist Glenn Gould

2 editions published in 1972 in French and English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

An early film by director Pierre Veilleux, who later made such animated shorts as "L'âme à voile" and "Mushrooms". Its design is in sharp contrast to the painterly style of his later films, though it's possible to pick up visual references to the work of artists like Picasso and De Chirico. Said to be based on the director's own recollections, the film is an interpretation of a child's first encounter with school. The setting is a concrete city of angular shapes, where the young mind is closely observed by imposing adult monsters and the very walls seem to have eyes. As the child, represented by his satchel, makes his way through this alien, regimented world, it remains to be seen whether his independent spirit will survive. Though not the most obvious of films, it's easier to understand once one has grasped the basic theme. Awards: International Film Festival, Oberhausen
