Guidelines for use of incinerator residue as highway construction material by R. J Collins( Book )

3 editions published in 1977 in English and held by 94 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This manual contains background information on the composition and characteristics of basic types of incinerator residues. A recommend classification system is presented. The use of incinerator residues in structural fill, stabilized base, and bituminous paving applications are discussed. Included are specific recommendations for materials handling and preparation, laboratory testing procedures, engineering properties, and design and construction procedures for these applications. This manual also includes recommended laboratory test procedures for determining the loss on ignition and physical composition of incinerator residue samples. A separate section is devoted to a summary of situations which are favorable, as well as unfavorable, to the utilization of municipal incinerator residue in highway or street construction. This manual discusses unfused residues from incinerator and pyrolysis operations

Technology for use of incinerator residue as highway material : identification of incinerator practices and residue sources by Valley Forge Laboratories( Book )

3 editions published in 1975 in English and held by 39 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A survey was made of present municipal incineration practices in the United States and other countries. Previous world-wide research and development work on the use of incinerator residues as highway material is summarized. The types, quantities, and locations of municipal incinerator residues produced in this country were determined. The predominant factors affecting residue quality are the nature of the burning action and the degree of burn-out. Six basic types of incinerator residues were identified according to a classification system based on incinerator design

Porous aggregates in concrete : sandstones from NW England by R. J Collins( Book )

6 editions published between 1989 and 2004 in English and held by 16 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Long-term durability studies have been undertaken on concrete made from a number of crushed rock sources at present little used in concrete. The information is needed for assessing the resource potential of these materials and to give specifiers and their clients confidence of lifetime performance in structures. After 20 years of unsheltered outdoor exposure, concretes made with porous sandstone aggregates from NW England have mostly performed well in resisting frost damage and protecting embedded metal. Aggregates producing poorer performance were found to have high shrinkage and were clearly uneconomic to use because of the poor strength development of concrete made with them. However, it is concluded that a significant proportion of sandstones from NW England constitute a valuable resource and no special testing is needed beyond standard concrete cube tests and drying shrinkage

Magnesian limestone aggregate in concrete by R. J Collins( Book )

3 editions published in 1991 in English and held by 9 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Magnesian limestones have frequently been compared unfavourably with harder and more consistent materials such as Carboniferous limestone. Research has shown that concrete can nevertheless be made to a consistently high grade using coarse aggregate from crushed Magnesian limestone in combination with a natural sand. Greater use could also be made of sand from crushed Magnesian limestone. This paper will help those responsible for the design and specification of concrete mixes and for planning sources of aggregates in future years
