The human factor : the figure in contemporary sculpture by Hayward Gallery (Londres)( Book )

1 edition published in 2014 in English and held by 298 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"'The Human Factor: the Figure in Contemporary Sculpture' brings together the work of 25 leading international artists, in whose practice the human form plays a central role. Over the past 25 years, artists have reinvented figurative sculpture by looking back to earlier movements in art history as well as imagery from contemporary culture. Setting up dialogues with modernist as well as classical and archaic models of art, these artists engage and confront the question of how we represent the 'human' today. Eschewing concerns related to psychological portraiture, these artists use the figure as a catalyst for evoking far-ranging content, including subjects spanning political violence and mortality to sexuality and voyeurism. A unique survey of figurative sculpture today, this highly illustrated volume features newly-commissioned essays by authors including Tate Britain Director, Penelope Curtis, art critic and writer Martin Herbert, Artangel co-director James Lingwood, art historian Lisa Lee and Hayward Gallery Director, and curator of the exhibition, Ralph Rugoff. Alongside full-colour images of the artists' works, the book also includes original and rarely-seen material documenting the creation of these fascinating works."--

1968( Book )

8 editions published in 2014 in English and held by 111 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"1968 the newest project by Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari's Toiletpaper in collaboration with the Deste Foundation in Athens, is an unorthodox and kaleidoscopic walk through the Dakis Joannou collection of radical design. A pivotal year for architecture, design and society, 1968 is a collection of dreams and nightmares, an inspiring compendium of colorful, ironic materials, objects, and bodies. Toiletpaper's interpretation of the collection results in mind blowing photographs that trap us in a complex system of references, crossing layers, three dimensional and real time collages. 1968 is a rainbow, the memory of a storm and the positive projection of a newborn sun: the history plus the future, masterly shown in the drawings by one of the primary characters of the radical design movement, Alessandro Mendini, who adds a vital contribution to Toiletpaper's visuals."--Page 4 of cover

Andra Ursuţa : Alps by Andra Ursuţa( Book )

2 editions published in 2016 in English and held by 81 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Combining formal innovation with dark humor and social commentary, the work of Romanian-born artist 'Andra Ursuta' (born 1979) uses parody and blasphemy to expose power dynamics, probe the vulnerability of the human body and examine modes of desire. Ursuta?s sculptures and installations engage a visual language that weaves an art-historical homage with a homespun, anarchic sensibility. Ursuta has lived in the US since the late 1990s, but many of the facets of her upbringing--from occult folk traditions to nationalist propaganda--resonate throughout her work. This volume, the artist?s first catalogue, marks her 2016 solo exhibition at the New Museum. It features an interview between Ursuta and Massimiliano Gioni, a new essay by Natalie Bell and a sardonic aesthetic prescription by artist Maurizio Cattelan.00Exhibition: The New Museum, NYC, USA (27.04.-19.06.2016)
Dorothy Iannone : you who read me with passion must forever be my friends by Dorothy Iannone( Book )

1 edition published in 2014 in English and held by 73 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

For over five decades, Dorothy Iannone has been making exuberantly sexual and joyfully transgressive image-text works. Karen Rosenberg wrote of her in et#x91;The New York Timeset#x92;: "High priestess, matriarch, sex goddess: the self-taught American artist Dorothy Iannone has been called all these things and more. Since the early 1960s she has been making paintings, sculptures and artist's books that advocate 'ecstatic unity, ' most often achieved through lovemaking." Beginning with the famous "An Icelandic Saga," in which Iannone narrates her journey to Iceland (where she meets Dieter Roth and leaves her husband to live with him), this singular volume traces Iannone's search for "ecstatic unity" from its carnal beginnings in her relationships with Roth and other men into its spiritual incarnation as she becomes a practicing Buddhist. Reproducing several previously unpublished or long-out-of-print works in their entirety (such as et#x91;Danger in Düsseldorfet#x92;, et#x91;The Whipet#x92;, "An Explosive Interlude"), as well as longer excerpts from rarely-seen works like A Cookbook and Berlin Beauties, this volume gives readers the chance to read her work with sustained attention, and enjoy the sophistication of the stories she tells and the visual-textual embellishments that make them so irresistible
Maurizio Cattelan : all by Nancy Spector( Book )

4 editions published in 2016 in English and held by 70 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Guggenheim Museum's sold-out publication 'Maurizio Cattelan: All' is returning to print. Hailed as a provocateur, prankster and tragic poet of our times, Maurizio Cattelan (born 1960) has created some of the most unforgettable images in contemporary art--most notoriously "The Ninth Hour" (1999), a sculpture of Pope John Paul II struck by a meteorite. Derived from popular culture, history and organized religion, Cattelan's subjects range widely, and his work, while bold and irreverent, is deadly serious in its scathing cultural critiques. The second edition of 'All' updates the catalogue that accompanied the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum's 2011-2012 retrospective survey of the artist. For this exhibition, Cattelan sidestepped the totalizing effect of a retrospective by devising a site-specific installation in which his entire oeuvre was suspended from the oculus of the museum's iconic rotunda. This book offers an equally unique response to the conventions of the catalogue. It is a faux-leather bound hardcover with gold stamping and thin paper that is designed to resemble an old textbook or bible. The volume details almost every work of Cattelan's from the late '80s to the present within a double-column page format, featuring full-color reproductions and accompanying entries. The revised edition describes the artist's return to art making after a five-year "retirement" with a special, ongoing project opening at the Guggenheim in May 2016. It also features a redesigned cover and installation images of the exhibition 'All'. Nancy Spector has augmented her critical overview of Cattelan--which documents not only his artistic output but also his ongoing activities as a curator, editor and publisher--with a new coda. Since its original publication, 'All' has become the Cattelan bible, and this revised edition exploring the latest chapter of the artist's influential career ensures it will remain the definitive source on his work for years to come

Shit and die( Book )

Toiletpaper by Maurizio Cattelan( )

in English and No Linguistic content and held by 38 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Toilet Paper is an artists' magazine created and produced by Maurizio Cattelan and photographer Pierpaolo Ferrari (Le Dictateur), born out of a passion or obsession they both cultivate: images. Following in the wake of Cattelan's cult publication Permanent Food, the magazine contains no text; each picture springs from an idea, often simple, and through a complex orchestration of people it becomes the materialization of the artists' mental outbursts. Since the first issue, in 2010, Toilet Paper has created a world that displays ambiguous narratives and a troubling imagination. It combines the vernacular of commercial photography with twisted narrative tableaux and surrealistic imagery. The result is a publication that is itself a work of art which, through its accessible form as a magazine, and through its wide distribution, challenges the limits of the contemporary art economy
