Found footage : cinema exposed( Book )

3 editions published in 2012 in English and held by 113 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This spirited work commemorates the opening of the EYE Film Institute in Amsterdam in spring 2012. Found Footage, the first exhibition in the new building, takes as its theme the museum's vast and valuable collection and shows how filmmakers and artists repurpose recent and historical footage to create new works: older narrative structures are unraveled to create new stories, images are recontextualized to produce new meaning, and different edits of the film footage are used to highlight new political or emotional significances. A beautifully illustrated and constructed volume, Found Footage reveals the power of film to be reused and recycled to create endless new pieces of art

Soundtrack is present on some of the clips and is from old recordings, ranging from Caruso to the sounds of a glass harmonica. The second film is a mockumentary that tells the fictional story of the ship Hollandia sailing near South Pole in 1905-1906 as told by ship's carpenter J.C. Sullivan. Uses the documentary style filming intermixed with archival footage actually shot during the period of real expeditions to document this fictional story of a tunnel connecting the two poles

3 editions published in 2018 in Dutch and held by 77 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In 1941, an interviewer tracked down and filmed the expedition's sole survivor, a ship's carpenter, in a tiny Irish cottage. Questioning history : imagining the past in contemporary art by Bianca Stigter( Book )

1 edition published in 2008 in English and held by 13 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Within contemporary visual art and photography there has, for a number of years, been a growing interest in history. At the same time, history is presented as 'the' history with decreasing certainty, since social upheavals have, over the course of recent decades, led to a different view of 'the' history." "The mass media have assumed the role of historiographers on a massive scale. The flipside of this development is that visual culture is gradually losing the ability to convey history in all its variety. The mediatization and globalization of our culture is leading to the dulling of our collective historical awareness." "In reaction to this, contemporary artists are asking increasingly critical questions about the way in which the representation of the past is constructed. The attention paid to history among visual artists, photographers, filmmakers and other image producers may indeed be nothing new, but Questioning History focuses on recent developments that are essentially different in their handling of images."--Jacket
