The collection chiefly concerns Ohio and Minn. land development and Rogers's years as private secretary to Rutherford B. Hayes. Includes family and general correspondence (during the years as secretary to Hayes); legal papers; business papers, primarily on mining and to a lesser extent on railroads of the Southern U.S. and Chiriqui Improvement Co.; Rogers's diary (1873); documents; maps; photographs; and clippings. Also includes business and investment papers of Dr. John Andrews, father-in-law of Rogers; correspondence of Orville Grant, Donn Piatt, Rutherford B. Hayes, and photostatic copies of letters from John C. and Jessie B. Fremont to Rogers dating from 1878-1889. By 1886 Rogers had become executor of the estate of his father-in-law, Dr. John Andrews and the collection includes Andrews's banking and investment papers and account book. Andrews was instrumental in the development of Steubenville, Ohio. A physician by occupation, he was also a local banker, founding member and proponent of the Steubenville and Indiana Railroad, founding chairman of the Steubenville Board of Education, and became president of the State Bank of Ohio in Columbus
