Dutch Parliamentary Election Study, 1971 by Robert Jan Mokken( )

5 editions published between 1973 and 1984 in 3 languages and held by 26 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This study was designed as a two-wave panel investigation of the 1971 election for the Second Chamber of Parliament in the Netherlands. The first wave was completed during the election campaign, and the second wave was conducted after the April 28, 1971, election date. Of the 2,495 respondents, 1,980 were reinterviewed in the second wave. The questions focused on the respondents' partisan preferences, political participation, and attitudes on political issues. The respondents were asked about problems in society and in their localities. In addition, they were asked to assess the performance of the political parties. Demographic data include age, sex, marital status, number of children, level of education, employment status and occupation, union membership, and religious preference

Density-based unsupervised classification for remote sensing by C. H. M. van Kemenade( Book )

4 editions published in 1998 in English and held by 11 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Abstract: "Most image classification methods are supervised and use a parametric model of the classes that have to be detected. The models of the different classes are trained by means of a set of training regions that usually have to be marked and classified by a human interpreter. Unsupervised classification methods are data-driven methods that do not use such a set of training samples. Instead, these methods look for (repeated) structures in the data. In this paper we describe a non-parametric unsupervised classification method. The method uses biased sampling to obtain a learning sample with little noise. Next, density estimation based clustering is used to find the structure in the learning data. The method generates a non-parametric model for each of the classes and uses these models to classify the pixels in the image."

Unsupervised Spatial Feature and Change Detection in RS Imaging( )

7 editions published between 1998 and 2000 in English and held by 7 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

We adapted and completed the spectral unsupervised clustering algorithm in terms of modern high-dimensional nonparametric density estimation methodology. This led to the completion of the unsupervised spectral classification part of our system. We then studied possibilities to improve our method of geo-spatially biased sampling of pixels. One of these techniques, based on a Bayesian geo-spatial local/global density quotient seems to be the most promising to provide efficient spectral samples for the ensuing, second, unsupervised spectral classification step. Finally, we completed the third step, the allocation of all pixels in the image to the system of classes in the second step in terms of two optional methods

UNSUP: An Approach to Unsupervised Classification of Remote Sensing Imagery( Book )

2 editions published in 1998 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Multispectral remote sensing (RS) images are high-dimensional, their dimension varying from 7 (Landsat TM) to 256 or more for hyperspectral data (AVIRIS). A high spatial resolution leads to huge data volumes for RS datasets. Their interpretation, given the usual lack of sufficient ground knowledge, depends on feature detection, requiring efficient unsupervised classification methods. An approach is sketched using fast kd-tree algorithms, with adaptive k-NN density estimators, leading to a 4-step unsupervised classification. In the first step an adaptive, spatially biased learning sample of spectral values is drawn from an RS image to provide an optimal base for class detection. In the second step a density-based cluster analysis detects the class system, for various values of separation and sample coverage. In the third step classes are not just defined as labels but also as linear segments on their singular value decompositions. Finally, in the fourth step the full image is classified by mapping its pixels to the nearest class as spectral mixtures. A prototype was developed with Java JDK 1.1 and tested on a Landsat TM image of the Painted Rock reservoir. Performance was quite satisfactory. The resulting image classifications showed good discrimination and class texture
