Mike Daley doesn't go to confession much since he left the priesthood twenty years ago and became a lawyer, but that doesn't stop his old friend, Father Ramon Aguirre, from trying to get him there. "It wouldn't kill you to go to church once in a while," he tells Mike. But it does kill someone. For months a ruinous sexual harassment suit has been building against the San Francisco Catholic Archdiocese and when the plaintiff's lawyer is found dead, an apparent suicide, an almost audible sigh of relief is heard in certain quarters. Then police find evidence of murder and the evidence points to Father Aguirre. Mike and his ex-wife law partner, Rosie, jump in to take the priest's case, but what started out as difficult soon appears impossible as forensics, witnesses, and secrets from Father Aguirre's past all incriminate their client. Soon, their wits are the only things keeping the priest from a life sentence or worse, and wits simply may not be enough-unless they can conjure up a miracle of their own.--from Publisher description

Social service manpower needs : an overview to 1980 by Sheldon Siegel( Book )

3 editions published in 1975 in English and held by 140 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Based on an analysis of existing data, manpower projections in the area of social services have been made to 1980 and are presented in the document. Methodology, data sources, and study limitiations are discussed and the historical growth of social service personnel examined. Differences in classification of social service workers from program to program have made employment growth difficult to compare, but program expansion has led to a large numerical increase in their employment, and labor force comparisons concur. In 1970 welfare services and residential welfare services employed 64% of all social service personnel, and health services and educational services employed nearly 19%. Changes in educational attainment are noted, with a large increase in the number of social service personnel with just a bachelor's degree, in 1970. Three forecasts for social service employment are presented, with employment growth indicated, although not as great as in the 1960'S. There is a strong basis for continued expansion in both baccalaureate and master's degree social work education. It is stated that estimations and projections are conservative due to the limitations of available data and the high state of uncertainty regarding Federal policy in this field. (Lh)

Mike Daley and ex-wife Rosie Fernandez stare down old demons as they return to work at the San Francisco Public Defender's Office where they started their careers and their relationship twenty years earlier. Now as co-heads of the Felony Division, they spend more time running the office and supervising younger attorneys than trying cases. that changes quickly when Mike is compelled to represent Thomas Nguyen. The high school senior was arrested under California's archaic "felony murder rule", which says you can be convicted of first degree murder if you're present when someone is killed during the course of a felony, even if you don't pull the trigger. As the evidence mounts against Thomas, it tests Mike and Rosie's legal skills and relationship. Their stress is compounded by the fact that Thomas may have a connection to Mike's older brother, Tommy, who died in Vietnam forty years earlier. Mike and Rosie face their most compelling challenge yet as they race to represent their client and try to find closure for old wounds

2 editions published in 2018 in English and held by 14 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Mike Daley and Rosie Fernandez have come a long way from their days as small-time defense attorneys working in a converted martial arts studio on the earthy side of Mission Street. Rosie is now San Francisco's Public Defender, and Mike is the head of the Felony Division. Their daughter is in college. Their son is in middle school. For the first time in years, there is a semblance of order in their lives. It doesn't last long. Johnny Bacigalupi is a rookie police officer and fourth-generation cop whose father is an assistant chief. He's also Mike's godson. On a rainy night, Johnny and his partner pull over a Honda for a routine traffic stop. A moment later, the driver, Juwon Jones, is dead. Johnny insists that he shot Jones in self-defense, but video from his body cam suggests otherwise, and Johnny is charged with murder. The victim's mother and Black Lives Matter insist that Jones was unarmed, and the gun found under his body was planted. Johnny's father and uncle plead with Mike to take a leave of absence from the P.D.'s office to handle Johnny's case. Mike and Rosie face their greatest challenge as violence erupts on the streets of San Francisco." --
