12 editions published between 1977 and 1980 in English and held by 456 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Catalog documents Christo's running fence project for Sonoma and Marin Counties, California, an outdoor fabric installation of an 18-foot-high stretch of white, billowing nylon curtains that extended 24.5 miles along the hills of Sonoma and Marin counties for two weeks in September 1976. It took three and a half years to prepare. Inspired by a snow fence they saw while driving along the Continental Divide in 1972, Christo and Jeanne-Claude envisioned a large installation that would enhance the topography of the land. The actual fence crossed 14 major roads and went through only one town: Valley Ford

The gates : project for Central Park, New York City : a work in progress by Christo( Book )

5 editions published between 1998 and 2003 in English and held by 194 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"On February 12, 2005, weather permitting, New York artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude will complete their temporary work of art, The Gates, Project for Central Park, New York City, 1979-2005." "First conceived in 1979, Christo and Jeanne-Claude's vision of 7,500 gates (each 16 feet high), following the edges of Central Park's 23 miles of footpaths, will transform Central Park. Saffron-colored fabric panels will hang seven feet above the ground blowing in the wind and delighting the public walking beneath with a warm glow of translucent color and free-floating grace. The project will remain for 16 days before The Gates is removed and the materials recycled." "This book, designed by Christo, records the evolution of The Gates project. Thirty-eight full-color illustrations of Christo's original preparatory works - from early sketches of Central Park to his most recent drawings, collages, maps, and technical diagrams - serve as the centerpiece for this book. Photographs from the community board hearings, public forums, public and private meetings, contract negotiations, and life-size tests complement the running narrative in this book, giving readers an insider's perspective on The Gates."--BOOK JACKET
Over the river : project for the Arkansas River, State of Colorado by Christo( Book )

7 editions published in 2008 in English and Catalan and held by 132 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In 1992, the infamous environmental installation artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude took their first trip west in search of a site for a new temporary artwork--in this case, a stream of successive transluscent fabric panels that would be suspended for two summer weeks across the banks of a Rocky Mountain river, high enough above the water to allow kayakers, rafters or pedestrians to drift along below it, and close enough to a road that the piece could be approached and enjoyed by car or bus. On subsequent trips they investigated the headwaters of 89 rivers in six states, logging 14,000 miles onto their odometer, until they finally settled on a site along the Arkansas River in the state of Colorado. Then they began the arduous process of getting permission from all of the necessary local bureaurocracies and activist groups. This book documents the process from 1992 until 2005, at which point the artists were still only halfway there. (The project will not come to fruition until the year 2010 at the earliest.) As with all previous projects, Over the River is financed entirely by Christo and Jeanne-Claude through the sale of preparatory work. These drawings, lithographs, collages and scale models are presented here, together with comprehensive documentary photographs

Christo and Jeanne-Claude : the floating piers : Lake Iseo, Italy, 2014-2016( Book )

2 editions published in 2016 in English and held by 92 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Floating Piers" is Christo and Jeanne-Claude's first large scale project since they realized "The Gates" in 2005 and draws upon their established history of projects in Italy, including "Wrapped Fountain" and "Wrapped Medieval Tower" in Spoleto, 1968; "Wrapped Monuments" in Milan, 1970; and "The Wall - Wrapped Roman Wall" in Rome, 1973-4. As with all of Christo and Jeanne-Claude's projects, "The Floating Piers" is funded entirely through the sale of Christo's original works of art. After the 16-day exhibition, all components have been removed and recycled. This book presents rich photographic coverage of "The Floating Piers" alongside sketches, models, documents and designs, revealing the process behind this waterborne work of art. Incorporating everything from approval procedures to the manufacture of fabric and anchoring elements, it testifies not only to Christo and Jeanne-Claude's unique creative imagination but also to the immense technical, bureaucratic, and logistical feats that allowed the concept to take float. The book was published after the exhibition ended and includes photographs of the project. Exhibition: Lake Iseo, Italy (18.06.-03.07.2016)

3 editions published in 1998 in English and held by 60 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Christo and Jeanne-Claude's Umbrella Project in 1991 was the most ambitious and expensive project they have ever undertaken. 1340 blue six metre umbrellas were assembled and erected throughout a narrow valley in rural Japan. 7000 yellow umbrellas were similarly prepared across the Pacific in a dry expanse of Californian land. After months of gruelling process, the two countries united as the forest of umbrellas were opened simultaneously on both continents.--Publisher
