"From classical work to the modern object, and from the modern industrial to "computerized" procedures, the interplay between author and user has become closer, more direct, more open. How does this increasing complicity affect architectural practice? How can architecture be conceived as a more fluid informational development? Publishing architecture is much more than displaying a recently finished product in which the architect is the unique author. To make architecture is a real undertaking in which numerous authors participate; it is based on the processing of information before, during and after the materialization of the building. This first issue of the new boogazine "Verb" deals with the present relationship between information and authorship in architectural practice, featuring works and texts by Manuel de Landa, Jorge Wagensberg, FOA Architects, Sadar & Vuga, njiric & njiric, Love, Lacaton & Vassal." - RIBA website
Rhythms cycles performances : ceramics in architecture by Jaime Salazar( Book )

8 editions published in 2010 in English and Danish and held by 120 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

One of the essential effects of the sustainability, not only in architecture, is the consideration to the objects' life span. From the moment when a building is required to be highly efficient, it used to be an unknown dimension for architecture; the service life. However, for various reasons currently this new dimension became a part of the project variables: the buildings and their components actually live, with their own biorhythm. The progress has not only seen one direction but it's a cocktail of solutions, in which from the most progressive sorts to the most traditional ones are blended. Ceramics symbolize this historical blend embracing unlimited possible futures in one material. Ceramics represent the millennial past of the inert material. On the other hand their soft nature, hardened by subsequent processes, allows any possibility to the form and technology. That makes ceramics as competitive as any other constructive material by their durability and low maintenance
Housing : new alternatives, new systems by Manuel Gausa( Book )

5 editions published between 1998 and 2002 in English and held by 35 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Forms of innovative housing in an urban context are knowledgeably analyzed in this survey and introduced systematically with numerous examples from famous international architects. Architects are searching for adequate new systems for urban housing construction given the background environment of the changing cities. The vital interest pertaining to these innovative fields of activity led the editor to critically examine realized buildings as well as planned projects. In the first section of the publication, the latest developments and research are competently placed into contexts and explained to the reader. In the second section, the housing and projects that can be considered paradigmatic are presented according to contextual aspects. The illustrative material (sketches, plans, model pictures, etc.) is for the most part published here for the first time. Works by the following architects are discussed in this volume: Adriaan Geuze & West 8, Ben van Berkel, MVRDV, Willem Jan Neutelings, Eduard Bru/OAS, Actar Arquitectura, allas/Diacomidis/Papandreou/Haritos/Nikomidos, Soriano-Palacios, Riegler & Riewe, Kees Christiaanse, Josep Llu's Mateo, Hans Kollhoff, Wiel Arets, Philippe Gazeau, Francis Soler, Steven Holl, Kas Oosterhuis, Josep LlinC s, Marzelle/Manescau/Steeg, Jean Nouvel, Eduardo Souto de Moura. The editor and principal author is an architect, director of the architectural magazine "Quaderns" and teaches at various universities

"As cities evolve architects are constantly searching for appropriate architectonic solutions, and in this book the authors present a systematic examination of innovative single-family houses and residential buildings in the context of present-day cities. The latest developments are reviewed in essays and thematic chapters discuss such topics as lowenergy building, the use of prefabricated materials, or low-budget building. A range of international examples from architects such as Wiel Arets, Shigeru Ban, Ben van Berkel, Kees Christiaanse, Phillipe Gazeau, Frank O. Gehry, Steven Holl, Hans Kollhoff, Morger & Degelo, MVRDV, Jean Nouvel, Kas Oosterhuis, illustrate the subjects discussed. "Housing" and "Single-Family Housing" were previously published separately, each proving hugely popular. Now both volumes have been incorporated into a single edition."--BOOK JACKET
Ritmos, ciclos, comportamientos : la cerámica en arquitectura( Book )

4 editions published in 2010 in Spanish and held by 15 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Desert America, territory of paradox( Book )

4 editions published in 2006 in English and held by 7 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

""Desert America: Territory of Paradox" is a survey of the extreme uses and activities that take place in the area roughly encompassing Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, Arizona and sections of California and Texas. Through photography and text, personal experience and history, we explore an alternate American desert - one of promise and failure inflated to magnificent proportions. In a region typically considered barren and empty, we investigate the phenomena that reveal the desert as a place that is in fact teeming with activity." "Seven "books" work in tandem to demonstrate how the Desert is an epic territory of extreme conditions that generate severe and often monumental reactions, constructions and outcomes. These books trace a parabola that begins with the idea of the Desert as the vacant, desired territory of history, the destination of past and present stories of American exodus. The chapters next rise through an arc of increasing colonization, examining the infrastructure projects that made the Desert inhabitable, as well as the technologies and ambitions that encouraged occupation, growth, and fortification. Our journey through this fascinating landscape is completed as we return to the image of the Desert as a territory of the empty and sublime - an image now conditioned by all that we have just witnessed."--Jacket
