2 editions published in 1996 in French and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

THIS WORK IS BASED ON THE ENUNCIATIVE THEORY, A THEORY CENTERED ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN UTTERER AND UTTERANCE. IT IS CONCERNED WITH THE EVOLUTION OF THE PRETERITE PERFECT OPPOSITION AND IS BASED ON A CORPUS MOSTLY COMPOSED OF BRITISH CARTOONS DATED FROM 1874 TO 1988. THE STUDY SHOWS THAT IF, STATISTICALLY, THE PRETERITE IS INCREASING, THE PRESENT PERFECT NEVERTHELESS REMAINS VERY STRONG, EVEN REINFORCING ITS ROLE AS AN ENUNCIATIVELY MARKED FORM IN VARIOUS TYPES OF SITUATIONS

2 editions published between 2008 and 2009 in French and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In this dissertation, we study the sentences occurring at the beginning of folktales in english and french in order to determine the part they play in the fictional apparatus of the narrative and to establish their linguistic invariant pattern. Within the framework of a communicational theory of narration, we provide an analysis in which these utterances are seen as pertaining to the co-enunciative protocole specific to the genre; and the linguistic constructions are stud1ed in their co m patibility with this particular context. The setting ofthe narrative is described by means of the concept of « situation », or locator, as obtained in the culiolian location theory (toe). The folktale narrative is treated as a form of non-direct enunciative mode, and the referential system of each utterance is construed as a complex locational system representing the multi-facetted entity assuming res po ns abilities in the text. Thanks to a comprehensive study ofthe different types of utterances at the beginning of the narrative, the fiction of the tale is construed as resulting frdm the distancing of two distinct locators: the situation of telling and the situation of the tale. The reviewing of text-type markers (there was once / il y avait une fois) as compared to constructions such as locative inversion found to se rare in context, shows that there must remain traces of the commitment of a particular locutionary subject. The analytical way of proceeding consiste in construing the linguistic markers as traces of locational operations specific to the genre of the folktale. this approach is assumed to be applicable to other discourse types

2 editions published in 2004 in French and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
