The effect of slurry in the maintenance of the clover component in mixed grass/clover swards by Ross Chapman( Book )

4 editions published in 1988 in English and held by 7 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Low input grassland systems depend on cheap fertiliser sources, such as clover or animal manures, to maintain sward productivity. Clover is a poor competitor for phosphate (P2O5) and potash (K2O), a mixed sward will therefore require adequate inputs of these nutrients. Nitrogen (N) leads to the suppression of clover. Recycling of cattle slurry would be followed by small N and P2O5 but large K2O effects. The K2O and P2O5 would be expected to have a beneficial effect on the clover while the N would be detrimental. Two investigations into the balance between these aspects of cattle slurry on clover in a mixed sward were performed. Slurry N led to clover suppression, this effect was strongest following spring applications. K2O had a beneficial effect on the clover, the P2O5 supplied had a small positive effect but was insufficient to fully meet the clover's requirements. There was a suggestion that these beneficial effects were strongest following summer applications. In addition to these fertiliser effects, non nutritional secondary effects often followed slurry with a deleterious action on the clover. These effects were most common following higher rates of slurry and summer applications. A further investigation was performed to establish the effect of varying clover variety and companion grass species on the clover's susceptibility to cattle slurry N and secondary effects and the nature of these effects following pig slurry applications. This revealed that clover's susceptibility to slurry N was inversely related to leaf size. No difference in secondary effects susceptibility arose with different clover varieties or companion grass species. Pig slurry was not accompanied by secondary effects. Slurry applications to mixed swards may therefore have positive and negative nutritional effects on the clover component but non nutritional secondary effects may also act with a deleterious effect on the clover

CI changes : from suggestion box to organisational learning : continuous improvement in Europe and Australia by Harry Boer( Book )

5 editions published between 2017 and 2018 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This title was first published in 2000: A consideration of continuous improvement (CI) practice and performance. It brings together the results of a survey conducted simultaneously in a number of countries, with the express intention of building up understanding of how companies throughout the world are managing the process of implementing and, perhaps more importantly, sustaining, the process of CI. In so doing, the book offers a perspective on the similarities and differences of experience in a number of countries and sheds light on possible generic problems that managers throughout the world will have to grapple with if they are to take advantage of the true potential offered by their significant investments in human resources."--Provided by publisher

International Workshop on Methane Hydrate Research and Development (4th) Held in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada on May 9-11, 2005( Book )

2 editions published in 2006 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

The Fourth Workshop of the International Committee on Gas Hydrates Research and Development was held during 9-11 May 2005 in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Invited national agency representatives and international researchers from university, government, and industry convened to assess research priorities and to promote international collaboration on methane hydrate research. The 2.5-day workshop included plenary lectures and panel discussions, conducted as a working event where all participants engaged in open discussions to develop collaborative methane hydrate studies. The workshop was organized by the Centre for Earth and Ocean Research at the University of Victoria, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada; the Marine Biogeochemistry Section at the Naval Research Laboratory, Washington, DC, USA, the Hawaii Natural Energy Institute of the University of Hawaii, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA, and in cooperation with the Institute for Energy Utilization, AIST, Hokkaido, Japan; the Department of Physics and Technology at the University of Bergen, Bergen, Norway; the Office of Naval Research - Global; the Geological Survey of Canada, and the United States Department of Energy. This series of annual international methane hydrate research and development workshops was initiated during March 2001 at the University of Hawaii. Subsequent workshops have been held in Washington, DC, USA and Vina Del Mar, Chile. At the previous three meetings, the focus was on presentaiton of research results on selected hydrate themes and description of national hydrate research programs. The workshops have resulted in international field and laboratory collaborations between U.S., Canadian, Japanese, Chilean, and German scientists working on methane hydrate exploration off the coasts of U.S., Canada, Chile, and Japan. At the Victoria workshop, the objective was more ambitious. A primary goal was to begin discussions

Acoustic calibration tests of the 219 projector by Defence Research Establishment Atlantic( Book )

2 editions published in 1996 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

This report is intended to serve as an introduction to the 219 Moving Coil Projector and presents the measured response curves for the frequency range 50 - 200 Hz. Two different coil assemblies were tested and the measured response curves for both units are presented. Calibration of the projector's pressure sensor is also included to allow for accurate tow-depth determination. The projector's harmonic distortion was measured and its effect on a broadband signal presented. Finally, typical towing characteristics (tow-angle, tow-depth, and cable scope) are summarized for a nominal tow-speed of 3.5 knots
