Life in photographs by
Linda McCartney(
Book
)
7 editions published between 2011 and 2015 in English and French and held by 234 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
In May 1968, Linda McCartney became the first female photographer to have her work on the cover of Rolling Stone. During her tenure as the leading photographer of the late 1960s musical scene, she captured many of rock's most important musicians on film, including Aretha Franklin, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Simon & Garfunkel, The Who, The Doors, and the Grateful Dead. In 1967, Linda met Paul McCartney at London's Bag O' Nails club and subsequently photographed The Beatles during an album launch event. Paul and Linda were married on March 12, 1969. For the next three decades, until her untimely death, she devoted herself to her family, vegetarianism, animal rights, and photography. From her early rock portraits through raising four children with Paul, Linda captured her whole world on film, from spontaneous family pictures to studio sessions. Always unassuming and fresh, her work displays a warmth and feeling that captures the essence of any subject. Whether photographing her children, celebrities, animals, or a fleeting moment of everyday life, she did so without pretension or artifice. This retrospective volume--selected from her archive of over 200,000 images--was produced in close collaboration with Paul and their children.--From publisher description

Stanley Kubrick(

)
21 editions published in 2008 in English and Spanish and held by 122 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"This is the first book to explore Stanley Kubrick's archives and the most comprehensive study of the filmmaker to date. In 1968, when Stanley Kubrick was asked to comment on the metaphysical significance of 2001: A Space Odyssey, he replied: "It's not a message I ever intended to convey in words. 2001 is a nonverbal experience.... I tried to create a visual experience, one that bypasses verbalized pigeonholing and directly penetrates the subconscious with an emotional and philosophic content." The philosophy behind Part 1 of The Stanley Kubrick Archives borrows from this line of thinking: from the opening sequence of Killer's Kiss to the final frames of Eyes Wide Shut, Kubrick's complete films are presented chronologically and wordlessly via frame enlargements. A completely nonverbal experience. The second part of the book brings to life the creative process of Kubrick's filmmaking by presenting a remarkable collection of mostly unseen material from his archives, including photographs, props, posters, artwork, set designs, sketches, correspondence, documents, screenplays, drafts, notes, and shooting schedules. Accompanying the visual material are essays by noted Kubrick scholars, articles written by and about Kubrick, and a selection of Kubrick's best interviews." --Publisher description

The definitive Jacques Tati : five volumes covering the complete life and work of the legendary filmmaker, screenwriter, and
performer(
Book
)
2 editions published in 2019 in English and held by 16 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Oscar-winning French director/performer Jacques Tati (1907-1982) was a fiercely innovative and original filmmaker who found inspiration in the observation of life around him. By creating and playing unassuming characters thrown into the bustle of society--the hapless postman François and the maladroit Monsieur Hulot--Tati brilliantly exposed the ways in which class distinctions, social mores, architecture, and technology affect the basic ways that humans relate to one another. Designed by M/M (Paris), the set includes: Volume I, "Tati Shoots": stills from all six feature films; Volume II, "Tati Writes": the complete screenplays, plus those of the unmade films The Illusionist and Confusion, illustrated by pages from Tati's original drafts; Volume III, "Tati Works": a comprehensive survey of his life and work; Volume IV, "Tati Explores": essays on important themes in his films; Volume V, "Tati Speaks": quotations, interviews, and a previously unpublished memoir by Tati
