The pop-up generation : design between dimensions by Lidewij Edelkoort( Book )

16 editions published in 2012 in English and held by 153 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Together with Lotte van Gelder, Edelkoort selected over sixty works to be included in this book which deals with temporary, mobile or recyclable projects. A wide scale of different pop-up-themed projects are featured in the publication, labelled with the symbols for hybrid, D.I.Y., temporary, mobile or a combination of the four. In addition to the colourful works, a number of essays by Ahmed El Hady, Carla Fernández, Bruce Sterling, Dr. Martine Naillon, Paola Antonelli, Hedwig Heinsman and Edelkoort herself tackle questions faced by today's generation of designers and thinkers. The pop-up theme is tackled from many angles in the short essays. We read about the pop-up mentality as being able to shift between the 2D and 3D world at ease, discussing a universe in which designers have become architects and fashion designers make films, where guerrilla actions seem to be by-products of the pop-up generation, becoming viral just as quickly as fading from existence
Fetishism in fashion by Lidewij Edelkoort( Book )

12 editions published between 2013 and 2014 in English and held by 135 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

It investigates topics including the evolution of taste from birth to adulthood, the elevation of shoes through ever-higher heels, the psychology of branding, the effects of infantilism, the power of the color black, the fetishizing of objects, and the interaction of architecture, fashion, and the body. The avant garde art performances of Leigh Bowery are highlighted in honor of his continually growing influence on contemporary culture. Talent is sourced from around the globe, focusing on innovative and original content that illustrates a dramatic shift in aesthetics. Bolder, crazier, and more outlandish styles are on the fashion horizon, making this book a key reference in a new era of experimentation and intense creativity

True Colors features deep conversations with twenty-eight artisans from every part of the globe who reveal their wisdom, traditions, and know-how--and suggest that we ignore what they know at our peril. Anthon Beeke : it's a miracle! by Lidewij Edelkoort( Book )

5 editions published between 2013 and 2014 in English and Dutch and held by 81 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Anthon Beeke is one of the prolific designers in the Netherlands that shaped the history of Dutch Design in the 20th century. This landmark book celebrates his impressive body of work through the stories that define the different aspects of Anthon Beeke's life in design, including Amsterdam, jazz, erotica, collecting, typography, photography, provocation and communication. One of the characteristics of his work is that Beeke has always tried to make his work not look like graphic design. He gives the world outside of the language of design a central place in his work and that probably is the reason why his posters, for example, resonated so strongly with the public and still do. His unique voice has always been and still is a true inspiration for younger generations of graphic designers.0Exhibition: Galerie Piet Hein Eek, Eindhoven, the Netherlands (30.6.-27.10.2013)

A labour of love by Lidewij Edelkoort( Book )

4 editions published in 2020 in English and held by 44 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A Labour of Love, a 448-page publication by design curators and authors Lidewij Edelkoort and Philip Fimmano. The book's title refers to craftsmanship as an alternative form of pride and fulfilment. It comes at a unique time in history when principles are evolving and a more mindful, altruistic approach is needed in design and manufacturing. Divided into 12 themes that reflect current materials and techniques, this bold book introduces the new makers in contemporary design, previewing a future of responsible production, circular thinking, ethical practice and organic aesthetics. It offers insight into how designers are giving shape to materials and process, from reviving the loom and recycling waste to social inclusion and growing matter. Their conscious philosophies will change our world with careful and considered choices that can ultimately reconnect us to nature and guide us towards a better tomorrow. As Edelkoort observes "People know they need to slow down the pace of overconsumption and overproduction; otherwise our planet will be lost. The creative world gains insight and invents systems where values shift and design plays an activist role, developing ideas about sharing between designer and the worker, designer and the underprivileged, designer and the amateur, designer and the designer... This new era gives hope for other ways of perceiving what is considered success, renown and profit. Here, capital is strictly human." Exhibition: part of Lille Métropole 2020, World Design Capital: Gare Saint Sauveur, Lille, France (09.09.-08.11.2020)
