Iona Abbey and nunnery by Anna Ritchie( Book )

3 editions published between 2001 and 2004 in English and held by 15 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The island of Iona is an enduring symbol of Christianity in Scotland. St Columba and his followers came from Ireland in AD 563 and founded a monastery that became the heart of the early Scottish Church. Even after the Abbey's decline after the Reformation, Iona continued to be a focus for visitors and pilgrims. Final reconstruction of the church began 100 years ago. This was followed by re-establishment of a religious community by George MacLeod in 1938. Today Iona is once again revitalised as a place of Christian communion. This fully illustrated booklet is the official souvenir to one of Scotland's most sacred places. (Adapted from back cover)
