Beyond Klimt : new horizons in Central Europe by Stella Rollig( Book )

1 edition published in 2018 in English and held by 100 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The period between the two World Wars is characterised in the arts by international networks that transcended political and ideological borders. A lively artistic exchange took place, stimulating constructive, expressionist, and fantastic tendencies. An increasingly important role was played by magazines that disseminated new positions. The outbreak of World War II abruptly interrupted these cosmopolitan art networks. This publication examines the fascinating, artistically fruitful epoch between the wars. Exhibition: Unteres Belvedere/Orangerie, Vienna, Austria (23.03.-26.08.2018) / BOZAR - Centre for Fine Arts, Brussels, Belgium (21.09.2018-20.01.2019)--Publisher's website
Sünde und Secession : Franz von Stuck in Wien = Sin and secession : Franz von Stuck in Vienna by Franz von Stuck( Book )

3 editions published in 2016 in German and held by 93 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

-- publisher's description
Say it with flowers! : Viennese flower painting from Waldmüller to Klimt by Rolf Hermann Johannsen( Book )

1 edition published in 2018 in English and held by 76 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"In this breathtaking book, richly illustrated chapters explore different artists' takes on floral paintings. Outstanding Viennese artists, from Ferdinand Georg Waldmuller to Gustav Klimt, tested their skills by painting opulent floral works. Readers will learn how the depiction of flowers in this period echoed the evolution of painting styles as artists liberated themselves from formal techniques, how women, excluded from painting academies, turned to flowers as a means of expression and emancipation, and how modern artists are influenced today by floral masterpieces of the past. Additional chapters examine the role of the sunflower in particular and the role of orientalism in the Biedermeier period, while brief essays on porcelain painting and botany provide additional perspectives. Generously illustrated, this wide-ranging and informative history offers a veritable bounty of floral delights."
Egon Schiele : the making of a collection by Egon Schiele( Book )

2 editions published in 2018 in English and held by 74 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In 1918 the 'Österreichische Galerie' under Director Franz M. Haberditzl was the first Austrian museum to acquire an oil painting by Schiele during his lifetime. Today the museum owns one of the top collections of paintings from the years 1907-1918 by the artist. The publication will examine each work separately and will answer questions with regard to their acquisition and subject as well as related works. At the same time, the results of the investigations into painting technique which the works have undergone since 2016 will be presented for the first time. Complementary essays explain the history of the collection and the changes to the stocks of Schiele?s works which are taking place as a result of museum reforms, the exchange of pictures or the restitution of individual works.00Exhibition: Lower Belvedere, Vienna, Austria (19.10.2018-17.02.2019)

Das Fastentuch-Fragment des Thomas von Villach by Thomas von Villach( Book )

1 edition published in 2015 in German and held by 18 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

1 edition published in 2017 in English and held by 7 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The exhibition demonstrates how artists have succeeded in differently perceiving the possibilities and limitations of age while transcending exaltation and pessimism. In the presented works, artists illustrate how age in all of its facets can be thoughtfully integrated into our lives. In addition to numerous works from the Belvedere collection, the exhibition presents high-profile loans from national and international museums. The publications accompanies the exhibition by the same name. Including works by Pina Bausch, Eric Fischl, Lucian Freud, George Grosz, Johannes Grützke, Alfred Hrdlicka, Regina Hügli, Birgit Jürgenssen, Anastasia Khoroshilova, Gustav Klimt, Oskar Kokoschka, Brigitte Kowanz, Maria Lassnig, Annie Leibovitz, Erich Lessing, Hans Op de Beeck, Martin Parr, Pablo Picasso, Margot Pilz, Juergen Teller, Joyce Tenneson, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Rosemarie Trockel, Jeff Wall, Nives Widauer
Klimt/Schiele/Kokoschka und die Frauen by Gustav Klimt( Book )

1 edition published in 2015 in German and held by 6 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

1 edition published in 2019 in German and held by 5 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The exhibition expands the view of Viennese Modernism and focuses on those women who actively helped shape the art scene at the beginning of the twentieth century. At that time, women who wanted to become artists were still at a severe disadvantage. They were denied access to education and artists? associations, and thus to exhibition opportunities. In spite of these hurdles, some of them managed to successfully build a career. In the predominantly male art business, they had to fight hard to gain a foothold. They found training opportunities and developed strategies to market themselves. By establishing their own artists? associations, they were able to network and become active in the art scene. Many of them exhibited at the Secession, the Hagenbund, the Salon Pisko, and the Miethke Gallery. Despite the fact that, in recent years, the lives and works of some of these formerly renowned artists have been researched and compiled into retrospectives, their work is still underestimated in importance and barely appreciated for what it is.00Exhibition: Belvedere, Wien, Austria (25.01. - 19.05.2019)
Klimt und die Antike : erotische Begegnungen( Book )

1 edition published in 2017 in German and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Gustav Klimt's 1907 publication of his illustrated edition of Lucian's ancient work 'Dialogues of the Courtesans' was the first time he exhibited his erotic art to the public, and it led to his denouncement by censors disturbed by the work's graphic content. This volume revives Klimt's masterful book, which pairs his erotic drawings with Wiener Werkstätte design, and which arguably resulted in the Art Nouveau era's most beautiful book. Klimt and Antiquity also compares the red- and black- figure Attic vases dating from the 5th century with Klimt's art. It presents Klimt's antiquity-inspired art as a dialogue between contemporary and ancient art, between genders, and between women's roles in times of antiquity and modernity. Essays explore Klimt's interest in ancient art; the ancient role of the courtesan; and the phenomenon of the Greek symposium as fertile ground for Greek art. Cubism, constructivism, form art by Österreichische Galerie Belvedere (Vienna)( Book )

1 edition published in 2016 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

From the 14th Vienna Secession exhibition in 1902 to the development of Constructivism in the 1920s, art in Austria- Hungary underwent a seismic change that challenged preconceptions, and broke the rules to shake up European Art. Tracing the evolution of art during this time period, this book makes valuable connections between the seemingly disparate Formkunst of Vienna, Cubism in Prague, and Hungarian Constructivism. Focusing on the works of artists such as Josef Hoffmann, Gustav Klimt, Josef Capek, Koloman Moser, Egon Schiele, Frantis Kupka, Lajos Kassa, and Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, and drawing from the latest scholarly research, this book presents a fundamental reinterpretation of turn-of-the-century art as it flourished in the Habsburg Empire
