Plant desiccation tolerance by Ulrich Lüttge( )

19 editions published between 2011 and 2013 in English and German and held by 549 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Desiccation tolerance was essential when plants first began to conquer land, roughly 400 million years ago. While most desiccation-tolerant plants belong to basal phylogenetic taxa, this capacity has also evolved among some vascular plant species. In this volume renowned experts treat plant desiccation tolerance at the organismic as well as at the cellular level. The diversity of ecophysiological adaptations and acclimations of cyanobacteria, eukaryotic algae, mosses, and lichens is addressed in several chapters. The particular problems of vascular plants during dehydration/rehydration cycles resulting not only from their hydraulic architectures, but also from severe secondary stresses associated with the desiccated state are discussed. Based on the treatment of desiccation tolerance at the organismic level, a second section of the book is devoted to the cell biological level. It delineates the general concepts of functional genomics, epigenetics, genetics, molecular biology and the sensing and signalling networks of systems biology involved in dehydration/rehydration cycles. This book provides an invaluable compilation of current knowledge, which is a prerequisite for a better understanding of plant desiccation tolerance in natural as well as agro- and forest ecosystems where water is one of the most essential resources

Die älteren ostfriesischen chronisten und geschictschreiber und ihre zeit by Dorothea Bartels( Book )

4 editions published in 1905 in German and Dutch and held by 6 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Estimating the Incidence of Road Traffic Fatalities and Injuries in Sri Lanka Using Multiple Data Sources by K Bhalla( )

1 edition published in 2010 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

We used data from multiple sources to estimate the incidence of fatal and non-fatal road traffic injuries in Sri Lanka in 2005. We validated the accuracy of the data from the national traffic police by comparing with estimates based on national death registration. For estimating the incidence and patterns of non-fatal injuries, we used a nationally represented health survey (World Health Survey), and data on hospital admissions from a rural setting (Galle district). We estimate that in the year 2005, approximately 2300 people died in Sri Lanka due to road traffic crashes, approximately 300,000 were injured in non-fatal crashes and approximately 140,000 received care for their injuries at hospitals. While the road traffic death rate in Sri Lanka is low compared with other low-income countries, it has been steadily rising for several years. Although young adults are at high risk in non-fatal crashes, the elderly have the highest death rate. Pedestrians and bicyclists account for more than half of all road traffic deaths and riders of motorised two-wheelers accounted for an additional 13%. The government of Sri Lanka should act immediately to stop the needless loss of life by implementing the recommendations of the 2004 World Report on Road Traffic Injury Prevention

Reliability Evaluation of Schottky Barrier Diode Microcircuits by E. T Lewis( Book )

2 editions published in 1976 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The objective of this study has been the analysis and reliability evaluation of modern Schottky Barrier Diode clamped microcircuits for use in high speed digital applications. The selected devices included SSI and MSI integration, single layer metallization, in both the regular and low power versions from two major vendors. All devices in the study utilized a trimetal system consisting of pure aluminum as the main conductor, titanium-tungsten as a barrier metal, and platinum-silicide for the Schottky and ohmic contacts. All devices were subjected to long term high temperature storage and high temperature static operation to establish activation energies and to calculate failure rates at maximum operating temperature ranges. The low power Schottky 54LS00 from both Vendors A and B were additionally subjected to dynamic long term accelerated testing for comparison purposes. Detail construction analysis and electrical characterization, including thermal resistances, were performed on all device types. Units which failed during the performance of life testing were electrically categorized and physically analyzed to establish failure modes and mechanisms. (Author)
