En 1931, Boris Karloff interprète le <<Frankenstein>> de James Whale, et dans les années 30 et 40 les studios hollywoodiens s'emparent du fantastique : <<The Wolf Man>> de George Wagner en 1941, est suivi de <<Hurlements>>, <<Le loup-garou de Londres>>, <<Fright Night>>, <<Silver Bullet>>, <<Wolf>>, <<Underworld>>, <<Van Helsing>>. La production fantastique est considérable et la musique classique est le contrepoint de l'effet fantastique. La force émotive de la musique classique est décuplée par les images du cinéma fantastique et les images donnent toutes leur charge émotionnelle dans le couplage avec la musique, comme l'illustre Alain Poncelet dans cet album
