Interview at the opening day of a small exhibit at Oakland City Hall of some of the artifacts excavated during the rebuilding of the Cypress Freeway in West Oakland, which was destroyed in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. Janet Pape, Caltrans District 4 and William Spires, Anthropological Studies Center at Sonoma State University, discuss the artifacts, many of which date from the Victorian era. The exhibit represents only a small fraction of the artifacts discovered during the excavation, with thousands more being cataloged by Sonoma State University. The exhibit, sponsored by the African American Museum & Library, includes a poster of the Pullman Car Porters Association
