1 edition published in 2004 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Lester Holt, of NBC, presents the events of D-Day 1944 as they unfold, using state-of-the-art video technology and archival footage to simulate live coverage of the events. Familiar present-day analysts and reporters assume the roles of "embedded correspondents" while presenting historical footage of the crucial Normandy invasion of World War II. The early impact on world capitals-Washington, London, Moscow, Berlin and Nazi occupied Paris is featured. The enormous risks and great probability of failure in these opeining hours of the invasion of Europe are captured realistically. Remote reporters cite elation in Paris, skepticism in Moscow, propaganda in Berlin and deep concern in Washington and London. Late-breaking news info bars scroll across the bottom of the screen to add to the illusion of real time events as they happen. The tenuous hold on the beachheads is expanded during the report as full forces are landed, but the outcome is by no means certain. The day is concluded in the United States with a magnificent prayer broadcast to the nation by President Roosevelt that "Almighty God may lead our sons, the pride of our nation, stright and true."
