Smetanas Zyklus Mein Vaterland ist inspiriert von der Mythologie und der Schönheit seiner tschechischen Heimat. Besonders bekannt wurde daraus "Die Moldau". In diesem Satz zeichnet er den Weg des Flusses von der Quelle bis zur Einmündung in die Elbe nach. Aber auch die anderen 5 Sätze (u.a. Aus Böhmens Hain und Flur) greifen Elemente der böhmischen Geschichte, seiner Sagen und Landschaften auf. - Colin Davis und das London Symphony Orchestra, zuvor mit Aufnahmen des anderen tschechischen Nationalkomponisten Antonín Dvorak gefeiert, präsentieren die musikalischen Schönheiten dieses Zyklus'. "Nur wenige musikalische Flüsse beschleunigten sich so wie Davis' Moldau oder begannen ihren Lauf mit solch bezaubernden murmelnden Flöten", schrieb The Times über das mitgeschnittene Konzert.
