O testamento do senhor Napumoceno( Visual )

3 editions published between 1998 and 2001 in Portuguese and held by 73 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"O Testamento do Senhor Napumoceno is an epic, or at least an epic farce, from one of the world's least known but most culturally complex societies - Cape Verde. This classic tale of the hollowness at the core of provincial bourgeois life introduces English speaking audiences to Germano Almeida, one of the outstanding writers in Portuguese today. With its novelistic breadth, the film offers a bildungsroman of a man and a society so caught up in the pursuit of conventional success and prestige it overlooks its true self almost until it is too late"--The California Newsreel Web site

Macunaíma by Joaquim Pedro de Andrade( Visual )

6 editions published between 1969 and 2013 in Portuguese and held by 12 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"In Macunaíma, cinema novo pioneer Joaquim Pedro de Andrade adapted a masterpiece of Brazilian modernism to reflect the simultaneous triumph of tropicalismo and onset of military dictatorship. Pure essence of 1969, the movie is a funny, freewheeling mélange of primitive myth and Busby Berkeley, hippie street theater and cabaret star Grande Otelo, glamorized urban guerrillas and documented candomblé rituals; it's full of racial high jinks, with a free-floating cannibal metaphor applied most savagely to a capitalist ogre."--Village Voice
Filhas do vento( Visual )

2 editions published in 2005 in Portuguese and held by 10 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The story follows the complex relationship between a set of sisters, mothers, and daughters; a family funeral serves as a starting point for a series of flashbacks from the 1960s and '70s. Though general sexism and gender stereotyping are among the causes for the tension between them, the social and political remnants of slavery present an even more insidious conflict to be dealt with"--Allmovies.com
