Lì cominciano le schermaglie tra Peter, capo della banda dei bambini sperduti, la protagonista, decisa a strappare l'eroe dal suo mondo per costruire con lui la sua vita adulta, Campanellino gelosa e pronta ad impedire la partenza di Peter Pan, e Capitan Uncino, il capo dei pirati ansioso di far pagare all'eroe l'amputazione della mano. Le avventure si susseguono con continui capovolgimenti di fronte, eterne incertezze sulla scelta di diventare grandi, in una (classica) lotta tra bene e male dove nessun colpo, anche il più basso e scorretto viene risparmiato: Capitan Uncino, dopo aver rapito Campanellino e i tre fratellini Darling, fa avvelenare Peter riducendolo in fin di vita. Sarà proprio l'amore, rappresentato da un tenero bacio tra i due protagonisti, a far rinvigorire Peter, di nuovo in grado di volare grazie ai suoi pensieri felici, e a consentirgli di sconfiggere e ridicolizzare il vecchio Uncino, lasciandolo tra le grinfie del terribile coccodrillo. La nostalgia dei genitori convince infine i tre fratelli a fare ritorno a casa; l'invito per Peter Pan è quello di seguirli affrontando la crescita e la vita adulta, passi necessari per continuare a vivere il suo amore per Wendy. Le favole però non possono permettersi di perdere i propri eroi, e la conclusione non può che essere una sola: tutti i bambini devono diventare adulti tranne uno, Peter Pan
