This book collects papers presented during the European Workshop on High Order Nonlinear Numerical Methods for Evolutionary PDEs (HONOM 2013) that was held at INRIA Bordeaux SudOuest, Talence, France in March, 2013. The central topic is high order methods for compressible fluid dynamics. In the workshop, and in this proceedings, greater emphasis is placed on the numerical than the theoretical aspects of this scientific field. The range of topics is broad, extending through algorithm design, accuracy, large scale computing, complex geometries, discontinuous Galerkin, finite element methods, Lagrangian hydrodynamics, finite difference methods and applications and uncertainty quantification. These techniques find practical applications in such fields as fluid mechanics, magnetohydrodynamics, nonlinear solid mechanics, and others for which genuinely nonlinear methods are needed

Abstract: "In this report, we have designed an Essentially Non Oscillatory reconstruction for functions defined on finiteelement type meshes. Two related problems are studied: the interpolation of possibly unsmooth multivariate functions on arbitrary meshes and the reconstruction of a function from its averages in the control volumes surrounding the nodes of the mesh. Concerning the first problem, we have studied the behaviour of the highest coefficients of two polynomial interpolations of a function that may admit discontinuities of locally regular curves: the Lagrange interpolation and an approximation such that the mean of the polynomial on any control volume is equal to that of the function to be approximated. This enables us to choose the best stencil for the approximation. The choice of the smallest possible number of stencils is addressed. Concerning the reconstruction problem, two methods have been studied: a first one base [sic] on an adaptation of the socalled reconstruction via deconvolution method to irregular meshes and a second one that lies on the approximation on the mean as defined above. The first method is conservative up to a quadrature formula and the second one is exactly conservative. The two methods have the expected order of accuracy, but the second one is much less expensive than the first one. Some numerical examples are given which demonstrate the efficiency of the reconstruction [sic]."

Abstract: "Many modern numerical method [sic] for the integration of the equation of compressible flows rely on TVD type schemes with Riemann solvers. These schemes are directly built from the generalisation of 1D numerical schemes for the Euler equations by mean [sic] of the finite volume method. Doing this, some propagation directions are priviledged [sic], the directions orthogonal to the facets of the control volumes. This may lead to large numerical errors, especially when the mesh is distorted. In this report, we compute the exact solution of the Riemann for a linear hyperbolic equation obtained from the Euler equation by linearisation. Then we show how to apply this result to construct a first order finite volume scheme that is genuinely multidimensional."

Nous nous intéressons dans cette thèse aux schémas numériques dits "distribuant le résidu". Cette classe de méthode s'applique aux équations de conservation, typiquement les équations de la mécanique des fluides ; la robustesse et la flexibilité de cette approche permettent de résoudre de manière précise et compacte des problèmes difficiles sur maillages non structurés. Nous présentons ici une méthodologie permettant de construire de façon automatique des schémas d'ordre élevé (deux et plus). Après avoir rappelé quelques éléments théoriques nécessaires à la compréhension de la méthode, nous tâchons de décrire la construction du schéma de façon assez simple, en illustrant la démarche par des expérimentations numériques. Les principaux avantages de la solution proposée sont les suivants : une grande facilité de mise en oeuvre, la possibilité de l'appliquer à de nombreuses discrétisations (triangulaire, quadrangulaire, tétrahèdrique, etc.) et le large éventail de problèmes pouvant être traités (mécanique des fluides, magnétohydrodynamique, équations de SaintVenant,...). Les résultats numériques proposés ici peuvent être groupés en deux types. Tout d'abord, les résultats sur des problèmes scalaires permettent de valider le gain de précision apportée par la méthode (jusqu'à l'odre 4) et son bon comportement sur des maillages hybrides. Ensuite, nous nous intéresserons à la mécanique des fluides (équations d'Euler et de NavierStokes). En particulier, nous proposons des résultats sur le castest cylindrejupe à Mach 5, où nous confrontons nos résultats avec des solutions mises à disposition par ONERA
