A concise history of Mexico by Brian R Hamnett( Book )

7 editions published between 2001 and 2003 in Spanish and held by 59 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Mexico's fascinating complexities are difficult to approach. This illustrated Concise History begins with a brief examination of contemporary issues, while the book as a whole - ranging from the Olmecs to the present day - combines a chronological and thematic approach while highlighting long-term issues and controversies over interpretation." "The book's prime objective is accessibility to a range of readers, including those interested in gaining a broad general knowledge of the country and those across the professions anxious to acquire a rapid but secure understanding of a subject where there are few starting points."--Jacket
The art and architecture of ancient Egypt by William Stevenson Smith( Book )

3 editions published between 2000 and 2008 in Spanish and held by 31 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The civilisation of Ancient Egypt flourished along the fertile banks of the River Nile. It was a civilisation that extended in virtually unbroken continuity from the fourth millennium B.C. to the conquest of Alexander the Great. During this long era of constancy the architectural and artistic styles characteristic of this civilisation changed and developed from period to period and dynasty to dynasty, as this book so vividly shows." "Monuments with their wall-reliefs and paintings and treasures and decoration as well as many other works of art are beautifully reproduced in over 400 illustrations, many in colour, which alongside this classic text, now revised and with a new updated bibliography, make this volume the definitive survey of this subject, appealing both to students and the general reader."--Jacket
Los problemas del lenguaje en los niños by Shula Chiat( Book )

3 editions published in 2001 in Spanish and held by 24 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Some children can hear and can speak, yet have trouble understanding or producing utterances. In this accessible introduction to children's language difficulties, Shula Chiat explores the stumbling blocks which lie behind their struggle. The uniqueness of this book lies in its focus on individual children, the extensive and intriguing examples which illustrate their problems, and the step-by-step search for the source of those problems. Difficulties with words, verb structures, function morphomenes, and meaning are examined and illustrated by detailed case studies. This book provides a clear overview of what children with language difficulties say and do, and introduces a logical approach to identifying children's language problems. It will be welcomed by students and researchers of linguistics, language development and language disorders; teachers of language-impaired children; and speech and language therapists
Remaking women : feminism and modernity in the Middle East by Lila Abu-Lughod( )

3 editions published in 2002 in Spanish and held by 21 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Contrary to popular perceptions, newly veiled women across the Middle East are just as much products and symbols of modernity as the upper- and middle-class women who courageously took off the veil almost a century ago. To make this point, these essays focus on the 'woman question' in the Middle East (most particularly in Egypt and Iran), especially at the turn of the century, when gender became a highly charged nationalist issue tied up in complex ways with the West. The last two decades have witnessed an extraordinary burst of energy and richness in Middle East women's studies, and the contributors to this volume exemplify the vitality of this new thinking. They take up issues of concern to historians and social thinkers working on the postcolonial world. The essays challenge the assumptions of other major works on women and feminism in the Middle East by questioning, among other things, the familiar dichotomy in which women's domesticity is associated with tradition and modernity with their entry into the public sphere. Indeed, Remaking Women is a radical challenge to any easy equation of modernity with progress, emancipation, and the empowerment of women. The contributors are Lila Abu-Lughod, Marilyn Booth, Deniz Kandiyoti, Khaled Fahmy, Mervat Hatem, Afsaneh Najmabadi, Omnia Shakry, and Zohreh T. Sullivan. The book is introduced by the editor with a piece called 'Feminist Longings and Postcolonial Conditions, ' which masterfully interfaces the critical studies of feminism and modernism with scholarship on South Asia and the Middle East
