Als Anne Frank vier Jahre alt ist, verlässt sie mit ihren Eltern Deutschland und siedelt nach Amsterdam über. Doch auch hier ist das Leben und der Alltag für die jüdische Familie nicht mehr sicher. Im Juli 1942 taucht die ganze Familie in einem Amsterdamer Hinterhaus unter. Sorgfältig legen sie zuvor eine "falsche Fährte", die eine Flucht in die Schweiz vortäuscht. In dieser Zeit beginnen die Tagebuchaufzeichnungen von Anne Frank, sie schreibt an eine imaginäre Freundin über die Geschehnisse im neuen Zuhause. Besonders eindringlich sind die Schilderungen von Miep Gies, die Familie Frank in dem Amsterdamer Hinterhaus versteckt und versorgt hat. Nach zwei Jahren, im August 1944, fliegt das Versteck auf... Robert Dornhelm inszenierte mit internationaler Top-Besetzung diesen aufwändigen Zweiteiler über das zu Herzen gehende Schicksal des jüdischen Mädchens, aufgewachsen in Holland, im März 1945 im KZ Bergen-Belsen verstorben, weltberühmt geworden durch ihre Tagebuchaufzeichnungen. Bereits 1959 verfilmte George Stevens mit "Das Tagebuch der Anne Frank" das wohl meistgelesene Zeugnis des Holocaust. Die Aufzeichnungen der jungen Anne aus dem Amsterdamer Versteck wurden bisher in über 60 Sprachen übersetzt. Die 1987 in London geborene Anne-Frank-Darstellerin Hannah Taylor-Gordon dürften einige Zuschauer aus Filmen wie "Jakob der Lügner", "Vier Hochzeiten und ein Todesfall" und "Das Geisterhaus" kennen

In 1944 Poland, a Jewish shop keeper named Jakob is summoned to ghetto headquarters after being caught out after curfew. While waiting for the German Kommondant, Jakob overhears a German radio broadcast about Russian troop movements. Returned to the ghetto, the shopkeeper shares his information with a friend and then rumors fly that there is a secret radio within the ghetto. Jakob uses the chance to spread hope throughout the ghetto by continuing to tell favourable tales of information from "his secret radio."
