The OCLC Research WorldCat Identities project is ending. The work provided valuable insight into how to mine bibliographic data for insight into the People and Organizations that create and serve as subjects library materials. The findings demonstrated the power of data mining over the world’s largest set of bibliographic metadata and highlighted the value of collaborative collective cataloging. The WorldCat Identities data has positively impacted OCLC’s work to build the WorldCat Entities application and the 150 million Person and Work descriptions accessible through it. This work will continue to build our entity ecosystem to support the future knowledge work of librarians.

The WorldCat Identities web application will be retired and shut down in the coming months and the data is no longer being updated. The most recent version of the data is from July of 2022. As OCLC continues to build out the WorldCat Entities ecosystem, please use it as a source for persistent Person identifiers. https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity

Sharing the Vision The National Standards for School Counseling Programs by Chari A Campbell( Book )

1 edition published in 1997 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The purpose of the school counseling program is to impart specific skills and learning opportunities through academic, career, and personal/social development experiences in a proactive and preventive manner for all students. This document presents national standards that can establish similar goals, expectations, support systems, and experiences for all students as a result of participation in a school counseling program. Chapter 1 defines standards and provides the American School Counselor Association's (ASCA) rationale for the development of these national standards. Chapter 2 provides an overview of the history of the school counseling profession and defines the school counseling program. The program goals are outlined, and major components are described along with benefits derived by its constituencies. Chapter 3 outlines the standards for the areas of academic, career, and social development. Following this is a list of student competencies that define the specific knowledge, attitudes, and skills that students should obtain as a result of participating in the program. Chapter 4 focuses on the initial stages of implementation and evaluation for a standards-based school counseling program. Sample activities of standards into practice are presented. Appendixes include information about ASCA, the Research Development Process for National Standards, and The School Counselor and comprehensive School Counseling Programs. (Contains 48 references.) Supporting a Nation of Learners The Development of National Standards for School Counseling Programs by Carol A Dahir( Book )

2 editions published in 1997 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A study was conducted to examine the attitudes of elementary, middle/junior high, and high school counselors toward the development of national standards for school counseling programs. An effort was also made to identify the components counselors thought should be included in the national standards. Input from leaders of the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) was used to develop a questionnaire that was refined and distributed to 102 participants at the ASCA annual meeting. Responses of 1,127 ASCA members provided the data. Results clearly establish that school counselors strongly and broadly wish to have national standards. They generally believe that national standards will identify a focal point for practice, articulate a professional mission, provide a center for aspiration, and drive momentum for the future of the profession. These findings can be a foundation for the development of national standards for school counseling programs, but considerable thought, exploration, and conversation will be needed to ensure that the voice of the practitioner is not lost as standards are developed. The survey is attached. (Contains 22 tables and 2 references.) (SLD)
