OECD territorial reviews : trans-border urban co-operation in the pan Yellow Sea Region( Book )

2 editions published in 2009 in English and held by 47 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Pan Yellow Sea Region (PYSR) covers the coasts of Northern China (Bohai Rim), western and southern Korea and south-western Japan (Kyushu). It has been one of the fastest growing economic zones in East Asia since China's opening in the early 1990s, thanks to the region's extensive manufacturing and transportation networks. Development has been driven by cities such as Dalian, Qingdao and Tianjin in China, Busan and Incheon in Korea, and Fukuoka and Kitakyushu in Japan. However, the PYSR has yet not fully utilized its assets nor reached its potential for growth. Further economic integration has been hindered by excessive competition and inadequate co-operation within the region. The regional transportation system requires structural changes to be integrated, especially in the container transportation market. Deepening the region's social and cultural network remains a challenge, and environmental concerns are increasingly attracting attention. This report analyzes these factors and assesses a wide range of policies to improve the PYSR's competitiveness and integration. In particular, the report examines the PYSR's trans-border governance system, which has emerged since the 1990s as a key regional policy agenda. The harmonization of authorities within the region is a prerequisite to achieving economic success and addressing the PYSR's diverse challenges. A comparative analysis of trans-border cooperation in OECD countries in Europe and North America is also included in an annex.--Publisher's description
Water and wastewater reuse : an environmentally sound approach for sustainable urban water management( Book )

2 editions published in 2005 in English and held by 42 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Water scarcity and water pollution pose a critical challenge in many developing countries. In urban areas, it is becoming difficult for the authorities to manage water supply and wastewater. Strategies for water and wastewater reuse can improve urban water management. This publication provides introductory guidelines for these strategies. The important aspects to minimize public health risks are identified. The possibilities of wastewater reuse in agriculture, industry, urban uses, and environmental water enhancement including groundwater recharge are discussed with the help of practical examples. The capacity building policy-making, institutional strengthening, financial mechanisms, and awareness raising and stakeholder participation are vital to implement these strategies for wastewater reuse.--Publisher's description

Rekishi Kaido : touch the spirit of Japan( Visual )

3 editions published in 2004 in 3 languages and held by 6 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This documentary based on a popular Japanese TV program, explores the historical Kansai region in Japan by touring the Rekishi Kaido Route. "The objective of the Rekishi Kaido project is to provide people in and outside Japan with a facility to access a wide variety of historic cultural resources in and around the Kansai region by designating a main route and several theme routes. Cooperation among the region's different communities is promoted to implement the project with three goals: creating a base for transmitting information on Japanese culture; creating a new leisure area; and enhancing the quality of local communities through maximum utilization of their cultural heritages. The main route (Ise-Asuka-Nara-Kyoto-Osaka-Kobe) involves five areas representing five different periods of Japanese history. The theme routes are based on local cultural heritages available in the six prefectures in the Kansai region (Shiga, Kyoto, Osaka, Hyogo, Nara and Wakayama), and two neighboring prefectures (Mie and Fukui)."--Kansai Institute of Information Systems (KIIS) Website
