"Arup is the design, architectural and engineering genius behind many of the world's leading buildings and urban areas. From the Sydney Opera House in Australia to the sprawling regeneration that came out of its HS1 rail engineering project in the UK, the firm's skilled team have created some of the world's most iconic developments. At its heart the firm, founded by Ove Arup in 1946, is about shaping a better world. This book provides a snapshot of just some of the thousands of projects that are being worked on - and demonstrates how they impact people's lives. Through intriguing questions such as 'What can a dragonfly teach us about design?' and more playful questions such as 'How big does a dog playground need to be?' it gives answers that are unexpected and surprising. It also shows the challenges - from the technical, to the sustainable, through to the ones that seem impossible at the outset - faced by those who are creating the world we live in today. It reveals the diversity of projects that are being worked on; from some of the most stunning structures in the world such as the CCTV Headquarters in Beijing, to the UCH Macmillan cancer hospital in the UK, a building that truly improves the lives of patients needing treatment, and also includes details of many other fascinating research projects. This is a firm that takes its place in society seriously, and it has t..." --Publisher description
The algae house : about the first building with a bioreactor façade = Das Algenhaus : über das erste Gebäude mit Bioreaktorfassade( Book )

1 edition published in 2014 in German and held by 45 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Edith Hemmrich, Mark Blaschitz and Jan Wurm discuss the world's first building equipped with an algae bioreactor facade ... Together with three other "Smart Material Houses", the prototypical building by SPLITTERWEK and Arup forms part of the International Building Exhibition (IBA) Hamburg. Microalgae are cultivated in glass photobioreactors to generate energy and, at the same time, to control light and shade. With its innovative floor plan typologies "Hamburg Apartment" and "Milan Apartment", the "Case Study House" presents contemporary refinements of Frank Lloyd Wright's "open plan", Adolf Loos's "Raumplan", and Margarete Shütte-Lihotzky's "Frankfurt Kitchen". The publication with recent essays and initial summary features detailed plans and visuals from the frist hand-drawn sketches, floor plans, cross-sections and details to a photo essay by the import Austrian architectural photographer Paul Ott"--Back cover

The SEIS addresses the environmental, social, cultural and economic issues raised in more than 4,000 public submissions on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement, which was released to the public in May 2009. The morning line : Matthew Ritchie : Aranda, Lasch : Arup AGU by Matthew Ritchie( Book )

1 edition published in 2011 in German and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Morning Line is a 17-ton aluminium structure, which Matthew Ritchie calls a permeable "anti-pavilion", a ruin and a monument all in one. Its form corresponds with Ritchie's efforts to create a coherent system of signs through art. The plans, sketches and computer animations in this book present 'The Morning Line' as a highly complex structure, its fractal beauty captured in Todd Eberle's stunning photographs. In-depth texts and interviews between Ritchie and the architects involved discuss this "anti-pavilion" as an interdisciplinary piece, somewhere between art, architecture, music, mathematics, cosmology, and science
