Performed at the 2006 Innsbruck Festival, Rene Jacobs leads a riveting production that is illustrated by the notion of Don Giovanni as a young rebel and taboo-breaker. Jacobs also tries to respect Mozart's original intentions as closely as possible

Wagner's powerful and wrenching tale of ill-fated love requires a cast of great singing actors, and that's just what this broadcast provides. Jon Vickers and Régine Crespin are the brother and sister who fall rapturously in love, only to be torn apart by death. The legendary Birgit Nilsson sings Brünnhilde, the Valkyrie of the title who is punished by her father (the magnificent Theo Adam as Wotan) for doing what he really wants her to do. Herbert von Karajan conducts his final Met performance

Moses und Aron : Opernfragment in zwei Akten by
Arnold Schoenberg(

)
4 editions published in 2006 in German and Italian and held by 188 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Moses und Aron (Moses and Aaron) is a three-act opera by Arnold Schoenberg with a German libretto by the composer after the book of Exodus. Unfinished at the time of the composer's death in 1951, it is--despite its unfinished status--widely regarded as Schoenberg's masterwork. From the sketchy outline of the play (1926) to its final version (1927) and to the inception of Moses und Aron as an oratorio (1928) and then into an opera, it was composed between 1930 and 1932. It is Schoenberg's response in dramatic form to the growing anti-Jewish movements in the German-speaking world after 1848 and his finest attempt at meshing his philosophical ideas with his artistry. It can be approached on many different levels: as an example of his twelve-tone system, as a work of biblical commentary, or as an attempt to work out the problems facing the Jew in the modern world
