Project Euclid is a joint effort by Cornell University Library and Duke University Press; this not-for-profit online publishing service provides access to journals, monographs, and conference proceedings in the fields of theoretical and applied mathematics and statistics. Project Euclid is designed to address the unique needs of low-cost independent and society journals. Through a collaborative partnership arrangement, these publishers will join forces and participate in an online presence with advanced functionality, without sacrificing their intellectual or economic independence or commitment to low subscription prices. Full-text searching, reference linking, interoperability through the Open Archives Initiative, and long-term retention of data are all important components of the project. New features include improved searching, citation exports, publisher landing pages, mobile optimization, print-on-demand purchasing, customized e-mail alerts, and access indicators for all content

Logic Colloquium '96 : proceedings of the colloquium held in San Sebastián, Spain, July 9-15, 1996 by J. M Larrazabal( )

1 edition published in 1998 in English and held by 6 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Since their inception, the 'Perspectives in Logic' and 'Lecture Notes in Logic' series have published seminal works by leading logicians. Many of the original books in the series have been unavailable for years, but they are now in print once again. This volume, the twelfth publication in the 'Lecture Notes in Logic' series, collects the proceedings of the European Summer Meeting of the Association of Symbolic Logic, held at the University of the Basque Country, San Sebastian in July 1996. The main topics were model theory, proof theory, recursion and complexity theory, models of arithmetic, logic for artificial intelligence, formal semantics of natural language, and philosophy of contemporary logic. The volume includes eleven papers from pre-eminent researchers in mathematical logic
Galois theory by Emil Artin( )

2 editions published between 1966 and 1971 in English and held by 6 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In the nineteenth century, French mathematician Evariste Galois developed the Galois theory of groups-one of the most penetrating concepts in modem mathematics. The elements of the theory are clearly presented in this second, revised edition of a volume of lectures delivered by noted mathematician Emil Artin. The book has been edited by Dr. Arthur N. Milgram, who has also supplemented the work with a Section on Applications. The first section deals with linear algebra, including fields, vector spaces, homogeneous linear equations, determinants, and other topics. A second section considers extension fields, polynomials, algebraic elements, splitting fields, group characters, normal extensions, roots of unity, Noether equations, Jummer's fields, and more. Dr. Milgram's section on applications discusses solvable groups, permutation groups, solution of equations by radicals, and other concepts
