2 editions published between 2008 and 2015 in French and held by 6 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Little Gerard enjoys spending time with his uncle, Mr. Hulot, a dreamer and bohemian character who lives in an old and run-down city district. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arpel and Gerard, meanwhile live in an ultra-modern geometric house and garden, Villa Arpel, in a new suburb of Paris. Gerard’s parents are entrenched in a machine-like existence of work, fixed gender roles, the acquisition of status through possessions, and conspicuous display to impress guests. Each element of the villa is stylistically- rather than functionally-designed thus ignoring the comfort of its inhabitants. Gerard’s trips with his uncle contrast with the sterility and monotony of life with his parents. Then, Gerard’s father plans to hire Mr. Hulot at his factory and Gerard’s mother plans to match Mr. Hulot with one of the neighbor ladies.
