Paula Modersohn-Becker by Paula Modersohn-Becker( Book )

7 editions published in 2014 in English and Danish and held by 131 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Résumé en 4ème de couverture: "The German painter Paula Modersohn-Becker (1876-1907) was a loner in visual art around 1900. She insisted on her artistic integrity in a male-dominated milieu and developed an original, highly distinctive aesthetic between German tradition and French modernism, with inspiration also from ancient art. Today her paintings of people and nature still stand out with their unconventional, raw beauty. In this richly illustrated book the story unfolds through introductions and analyses written by art historians with in-depth knowledge of her oeuvre, and interviews with present-day artists. Paula Modersohn-Becker's work, declared entarted (degenerate) by the Nazis in the thirties, is assuming an ever more distinctive position in the history of modern art. Here we see an original young artist hurtling at full speed into the new century that she hardly came to experience. New readers can begin here."

Arab contemporary : architecture & identity by Michael Juul Holm( Book )

7 editions published in 2014 in English and held by 127 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The Arab world consists of 24 countries bound together by the shared principal language Arabic, but otherwise exhibiting great differences and many exceptions - from Beirut to Sana'a, from Baghdad to Cairo, and from Dubai to Marrakesh. Other religions than Islam are practiced, and Islam itself is practiced in a multitude of ways; there are other landscapes than the desert and other languages than Arabic. Nevertheless one can point to certain common features that have survived from past to the present, and which mean that we can speak of a distinctive culture"--Back cover

New Nordic : architecture & identity( Book )

3 editions published in 2012 in English and held by 110 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In recent years, many Nordic architects have returned to the materials used by their modernist forbearers (Alvar Aalto, Arne Jacobsen, Erik Gunnar Asplund, Jørn Utzon)--materials such as brick, pine, granite and concrete--developing a new regionialist idiom for Norway that has garnered much acclaim around the world. New Nordic Architecture & Identity offers a critical exploration of the current global interest in Nordic-ness, attempting to determine whether certain special "Nordic" features recur in architecture, and whether this involves a fundamental formal idiom that is regularly reinterpreted. Is there a Nordic architectural identity? And if so, how has this Nordic identity developed in relation to the rest of the world? This volume looks at buildings by Snøhetta, Jarmund/Vignaes, Lassila Hirvilammi, Johan Celsing, Lundgaard & Tranberg, Bjarke Ingels Group and Studio Granda, highlighting their new uses of "traditional" Nordic materials

Olafur Eliasson : Riverbed, Louisiana by Ólafur Elíasson( Book )

11 editions published in 2014 in Danish and English and held by 104 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Olafur Eliasson's take on Louisiana is radical, fascinating and unique. The central work in the first solo exhibition at the museum by the Danish-Icelandic artist is a huge, sitespecific project that reverses the relation between nature and art. The transitions between inside and outside, culture and staged nature, become fluid and transitory - and the progress of the visitor through the museum becomes a central issue. Eliasson's exhibition is an enhancement of our gaze at the museum, at ourselves and at the world. Olafur Eliasson's exhibition at Louisiana engages with the museum's unique identity. The exhibition consists of three sections that each thematize the encounter between Eliasson's art and Louisiana as a place. The central work, Riverbed (2014), is based on the unique connection between nature, architecture and art that characterizes the museum. Transforming the entire South Wing into a rocky landscape, Eliasson focuses on inhabiting space in a new way and inserts new patterns of movement into the museum. Eye attack : op art and kinetic art 1950-1970( Book )

2 editions published in 2016 in English and held by 103 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

With the first major presentation of Op Art and Kinetic Art in Scandinavia for more than 50 years, Louisiana opens the door to a visual experimental laboratory with the whole range of media and techniques. 'Op Art' is an abbreviation of Optical Art and describes works which use ingeniously crafted optical illusions and effects that go straight to the core of our visual sensory apparatus. The movement had its inception in the middle of the 1950s and its glory days in the 1960s, when it established itself internationally across political and cultural contexts. The artists were preoccupied with science, the psychology of perception and the new technology of the time ? and turned their backs on old-fashioned storytelling and romantic sensitivity. While Kinetic and Optical Art originate from a particular time, the results are surprisingly timeless, and the movement has left striking marks in contemporary visual art and culture. The direct appeal to the senses is unabated ? and is effective today in a mixture of instant fascination and nostalgia.00With around 100 works and more than 40 artists, including Hungarian Victor Vasarely and English Bridget Riley in two of the main roles, the exhibition opens the door to a visual experimental laboratory with the whole range of media and techniques.00Exhibition: Louisiana Museum, Humlebaek, Denmark (04.02.-05.06.2016)
Yayoi Kusama : in infinity by Yayoi Kusama( Book )

3 editions published in 2015 in English and held by 102 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Within a few years, Yayoi Kusama (born 1929) has become a favourite of Louisiana's guests because of her Gleaming Lights of the Souls installation at the museum: a mirror-lined room with hundreds of lamps in various colours that give the viewer a cosmic sensation of being in an infinite space. But with a career spanning six decades, Kusama is much more than this. She came onto the art scene almost as a woman counterpart to Andy Warhol in New York in the 1960s, where she expressed herself in a mixture of art, fashion and happenings. Since then, her striking visual language and constant artistic innovation have rightfully earned her a position as one of today's most prominent artists. Louisiana's exhibition of Kusama tells the full story of this Japanese artist who with prodigious productivity has created an entire world unto itself, in which color, patterns and movement together bear witness to her fascination with the infinite. The Louisiana exhibition unfurls the whole of Kusama's life's work: from early watercolours and pastels to her ground-breaking paintings and sculptures from the 1960s, psychedelic films, performances, installations and political happenings in the 1960s and the early 1970s, as well as shedding new light on works from the 1980s, after the artist's return to Tokyo. Also on show exhibition are several of Kusama's recent installations, and a series of new paintings by the 86-year-old Kusama, created especially for Louisiana's exhibition. The exhibition is the first Kusama retrospective to take into account the artist's interest in fashion and design but also includes several important works from her early period that have never before been exhibited. 00Exhibition: Louisiana Museum, Humlebaek, Denmark (17.9.2015 - 24.1.2016)
