Maria Roosen : monster by Maria Roosen( Book )

6 editions published in 2009 in Dutch and English and held by 80 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Breasts, silver mushrooms, a melancholy fir tree, giant slippers, a water tower with a crazy red wig, pricks dangling from a string, milk jugs: these are a few of the ten works that Maria Roosen has chosen as her favourite top ten at the moment. From this subjective choice of ten works emerges a fabric of visual and textual narratives about their genesis, links with other work, pendants, associations, sources, ideas and mentality. This book Monster connects these key works and threads with one another with a profusion of images of Roosen's work and texts by Hanne Hagenaars and Wim Van Mulders." --Book Jacket

Retracing by Rein Jelle Terpstra( Book )

6 editions published in 2013 in Dutch and English and held by 40 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Retracing is a research project about perception, memory, photography and the possibility of imagelessness. Rein Jelle Terpstra collaborates with people who are slowly losing their sight. He asked them about their most valuable visual memory and photographed these scenes on Kodachrome diapositive, thereby promising them to - years later - read out loud precise descriptions of the images, in an attempt to retrace these images in their minds. Retracing is about parting and loss. Perception lost its naturalness, with photography getting an ambiguous role in the conservation of images. Before turning the project into a book, Terpstra used the images of Retracing in a tripartite slide-installation, in which the images slowly fade into one another. This phenomenon is represented in the book by alternating pages showing photographs of projections in the dark with pages showing the slides. The paper is slightly transparent so to create the effect of fading

Sara Bjarland : groundwork by Sara Bjarland( Book )

2 editions published in 2019 in Multiple languages and Dutch and held by 15 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In her sculptures and installations, Bjarland uses discarded objects and materials that she finds in the city, to investigate overlaps and encounters of the natural and the artificial, the living and the non-living. On al-most daily bike rides past the enormous trash piles in Amsterdam, Bjarland collects objects such as pieces of furniture, dead house plants, plastic flowers, garden accessories, bits of fences, cat crab posts, floor mobs, broken pipes, building materials, etc. She sees these as leftovers of the materialist society that we live in and important carriers of value and meaning, despite their loss of function. Using approaches and strategies like reappropriation, manipulation and some-times photographic staging, Bjarlands work is a way of recycling, preserving and caring for the materials she reclaims. It is also a quiet criticism of western consumerism and the enormous waste accumulation that results from it. 00Bjarland likes to think of her studio as a garden where objects gather, cross-pollinate and grow into new hybrid forms and beings, reminiscent of strange plants or creatures. She looks for combinations of objects that?talk back to her?. This process is highly intuitive and associative. The relations between the objects and how they function together is important, and she often arranges them into groups or?species?, imagining them as inhabitants of a world without humans, where discarded materials start to have a life of their own and become actors or characters
Mar by Marijn Bax( Book )

1 edition published in 2018 in English and held by 12 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"In 2017, at the age of 102, Mar passed away. Those close to her knew her as a special woman who gave colour to life, literally and figuratively. Ten years ago, Marijn Bax started to photograph Mar in her house, fascinated by the fusion between her movements and the walls and furniture, as well as by the colours and fabrics surrounding her. It soon grew into an intense collaboration and friendship. About their working together, Mar would always say 'Do something with this when I am no longer here.' The day that she passed, Bax knew precisely what that something should be: an artist's book, not about Mar, but from Mar, just as colourful and clever as she herself had been"--Idea Books website, viewed March 19, 2019

Riette Wanders by Riette Wanders( Book )

3 editions published in 2013 in Dutch and English and held by 8 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The drawings of Riette Wanders are, without exception, black in color. Perhaps for the simple reason that her sense of color isn’t all that great, as she’s said; or perhaps this is the best hue for what appears on the paper, namely a Goya-like universe full of indefinable moments, a search for the nature of mankind

Maria Roosen : mijn vrienden = my friends = mes amis = i miei amici = mis amigos = meine Freunde by Maria Roosen( Book )

3 editions published in 2006 in Dutch and English and held by 7 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Dutch artist Maria Roosen loves magic. Not so much witchcraft as the small everyday wonders--like the way a drop of oil in a puddle of water suddenly reflects the world in 1,000 colors. Glass is one of Roosen's primary materials, and she is best known for her little glass carrots; her glass eyes; her glass penises dangling from a cord, somehow at once sweet and sorrowful, and calling to mind the work of Eva Hesse or Louise Bourgeois. Roosen also makes big white papier-mßche spheres that she gives to her friends, asking them to make alter-ego faces on them and to wear them over their heads, or to share them with others at public events. In this sturdy accordion-folded book we are introduced to Maria's friends--in their masks--via a series of photographic portraits, while Hanne Hagenaars tells us about their adventures
