First is the charter commissioning Raleigh's expeditions to America, "for the Discovery and Planting of New Lands," written in March of 1584. Next is a letter from Ralph Lane to M. Richard Hakluyt written from Virginia in 1585, again praising the land and its resources. The third section, written well after these events, is a short summary of Sir Walter Raleigh's life and accomplishments, with excerpts from various biographies written about him
