La confrérie : enquête sur les Frères musulmans = The Brotherhood : investigating the Muslim Brotherhood by Michaël Prazan( Visual )

4 editions published in 2013 in French and held by 15 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Muslim Brotherhood was founded in 1928 by Hassan al-Banna, during a period that witnessed a revival of religious fundamentalism and armed combat against Western, and in particular British occupation of the Arabian peninsula. According to al-Banna, contemporary Islam had become corrupted by Western influences. The ideas brought them to power, in Egypt, where the Muslim Brotherhood was born and in most of the countries of the "Arab Spring" where aging nationalist dictators were deposed through popular uprisings. Initially keeping a distance from popular demands for democracy, the Brotherhood benefitted from their first democratic election when Mohammed Morsi came to power in Egypt in 2012 with 51% of the vote. To understand the movement today we look back on its history and ideas through interviews with founding leaders and analysts

The faith of the century = La foi du siècle by Patrick Rotman( Visual )

5 editions published between 1999 and 2005 in French and held by 8 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The surveillance network ECHELON was developed during WW II on behalf of the United States and its partners (Britain, Australia, Canada and New Zealand) and evolved in the UKUSA intelligence alliance, a secret treaty in 1947. The treaty divided the world between the partners to share the products of global eavesdropping. Agencies from the five countries exchange the intelligence. ECHELON is run by U.S. National Security Agency, NSA, based at Fort Meade, Maryland, and boasts the world's second most powerful computer system. Using identified key words, the system intercepts satellites, telephones, faxes, emails, and any other so-called private signal - and is now capable of intercepting two million messages per hour. Evidence shows that it was collecting vital commercial information on various major arms and development deals, and that an office in Washington DC, the Office of Intelligence Liaison, had been specifically set up to feed information on European contracts to the US business community

Printemps arabes, la confiscation by Frédéric Brunnquell( Visual )

1 edition published in 2013 in French and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
