The first segment presents religious music and a recitation of a poem by John of the Cross. Joseph Horowitz and Antonio Molina discuss the Europeanization of Spanish music in the 20th century; the influence of Stravinsky on Falla's late music; connections between Spanish music and visual art; the writings of Federico Garcia Lorca; the centrality of Flamenco in Spanish culture. The second musical segment includes the first performance of Falla's concerto and a series of madrigals. Pianist Pedro Carboné speaks about the construction of the concerto and how it reflects the influence of folk and religious music, and performs three piano sonatas. A second performance of Falla's concerto concludes the program
