14 editions published between 2004 and 2014 in English and held by 566 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Since its maiden voyage and sinking in April 1912, the Titanic has become a monumental icon of the twentieth century and has inspired a multitude of interpretations. This book is the first to present a fully comprehensive discussion of the diverse representations of the Titanic disaster in cinema, history, literature and art. The contributors draw out the connections as well as differences in the way generations of artists and audiences have approached the tragedy and the final section is an in-depth examination of its most recent interpretation, James Cameron's blockbuster film Titanic. International adventures : German popular cinema and European co-productions in the 1960s by Tim Bergfelder( Book )

17 editions published between 2004 and 2006 in English and held by 352 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"International Adventures firmly locates its case studies within the wider dynamic of European cinema. In its study of West German cinema's links and co-operations with other countries including Britain, France, and Italy, the book addresses what is perhaps the most striking phenomenon of 1960s popular film genres; the dispersal and disappearance of markers of national identity in increasingly international narratives and modes of production."--Jacket

Stars and stardom in Brazilian cinema by Tim Bergfelder( Book )

9 editions published between 2016 and 2017 in English and held by 121 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Despite the recent explosion of scholarly interest in "star studies," Brazilian film has received comparatively little attention. As this volume demonstrates, however, the richness of Brazilian stardom extends well beyond the ubiquitous Carmen Miranda. Among the studies assembled here are fascinating explorations of figures such as Eliane Lage (the star attraction of Sao Paulo's Vera Cruz studios), cult horror movie auteur Coffin Joe, and Lazaro Ramos, the most visible Afro-Brazilian actor today. At the same time, contributors interrogate the inner workings of the star system in Brazil, from the pioneering efforts of silent-era actresses to the recent advent of the non-professional movie star

National, transnational or supranational cinema? Rethinking European film studies by T Bergfelder( )

2 editions published in 2005 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Article discusses critical parameters and historical perceptions that have dominated the academic study of European cinema since the 1990s. The main argument is that what has been frequently ignored is the supranational dimension of the term 'European'. Thus, while the field of European film studies has witnessed a number of significant shifts in emphasis (most pertinently the refocusing from art cinema towards popular film genres), the core debate still primarily centres on national cinemas. The article then suggests engaging in areas that exemplify interconnectedness between national cinemas. These include patterns of inter-European migration and issues of multiculturalism; industrial practices such as co-productions; as well as localized strategies of receiving foreign films through mechanisms of translation and adaptation

[arte]
