The Other Man( Visual )

7 editions published between 2014 and 2015 in English and held by 334 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"It could have been a bloodbath of historic proportions. But instead, one man made the end of apartheid possible: in February 1990, President F.W. de Klerk lifted the ban on the African National Congress and ordered the release of Nelson Mandela. As the world celebrated, Mandela would go on to become South Africa's first democratically elected president -- with de Klerk as his Vice President. But de Klerk's history is complicated. Before becoming president, he was a virulent defender of white Africans and their privileges, and helped lead the policy of 'Total Onslaught, Total Strategy' against ANC activists. And his own term as president was marred by violence, often at the hands of his own security forces. What pushed this man to reverse his beliefs and jumpstart the process of making South Africa a more equal and just nation? Featuring in-depth interviews with de Klerk himself, former president Thabo Mbeki, anti-apartheid activists Father Michael Lapsley and Mathews Phosa, Yasmin Sooka (of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission), Richard Goldstone (who headed the Goldstone Commission investigations into political violence) and many others, filmmaker Nic Rossier explores the fascinating political journey and legacy of this complex figure"--Container

"Jean-Bertrand Aristide, the former president of Haiti, was twice removed from office with the complicity of the international community. An investigation into the events that led to his most recent ouster, 'Aristide and the endless revolution' exposes the geopolitical intrigue, the economic alliances between the Haitian and U.S. elite, the armed criminals posing as freedom fighters and other factors that have consistently threatened this young democracy."--Container

A definitive documentary about American academic Norman Finkelstein, a devoted son of Holocaust survivors, ardent critic of U.S. and Israeli Mid-East policy, and author of five provocative books, including The Holocaust industry. Finkelstein has been steadfastly at the center of many intractable controversies, including the recent denial of his tenure at DePaul University. He's called a lunatic and a self-hating Jew by some and an inspirational street-fighting revolutionary by others

Revolutions. an endless revolution( Visual )

1 edition published in 2012 in English and held by 86 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A complex historical truth emerges in Nicolas Rossier's intelligent examination revealing the oft-suppressed story of the 2004 coup d'etat in Haiti, as well as the systemic violence and human rights violations that erupted under the interim government. An interview with the deposed president, Jean-Bertrand Aristide in Pretoria, South Africa is juxtaposed with the views of a wide range of supporters and critics, including US Assistant Secretary of State Roger Noriega. It is not Aristide and the Lavalas supporters who emerge looking like thugs but international interests concerned with suppressing popular democracy and ending the reforms Aristide was capable of making-despite embargoes and the need to service a debt for loans Haiti never received. This provocative documentary draws out the central place in international history in the historical poverty of Haiti
Haiti : an endless revolution( Visual )

3 editions published between 2005 and 2016 in English and held by 56 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Jean-Bertrand Aristide is a Roman Catholic priest turned politician who served two non-consecutive terms as the democratically elected president of Haiti. On the morning of February 29, 2004, Aristide fled the country for the second time. Aristide served in 1991, from '94 to '96, and from 2001 to '04, and in two out of three cases, he was unseated by coup. In 2000, Aristide won reelection by a staggering 91.8 percent of the vote. The Clinton administration denounced the elections and worked with the European Union to block a $440 million loan, as a result, conditions in Haiti quickly worsened. Aristide--whose demands for debt relief and other compensations rankled leaders from Washington to Paris--was deposed. United States officials claim that Aristide resigned; he claims that he was forcefully abducted by U.S. and French soldiers. This film gives a sober account of governmental misadventures largely ignored by the mainstream media, and of how Jean-Bertrand Aristide watches from exile as the world allows the country he loves so much to rot

Une révolution sans fin : Jean-Bertrand Aristide et l'avenir incertain d'Haïti by Nicolas Rossier( Visual )

1 edition published in 2007 in French and held by 5 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
