Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the child of music : around the String quartet, K. 421 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart( Visual )

1 edition published in 1999 in Multiple languages and held by 26 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

An invitation to plunge into the Age of Enlightenment to experience the unbridled world of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Far from pieces of convenience composed for an aristocratic audience or easy works intended to an amateur public, the genre of the string quartet has always been for Mozart the privileged mean to express his personal feelings. Intended to the "happy few"--To use Stendhal's expression -- the six quartets dedicated to Haydn rest on an dense polyphonic composition, an elaborated form, and an outstanding dramatic intensity. Among these six string quartets, the String Quartet No. 15 in D Minor, K. 421 holds however an unusual position. Firstly, it is Mozart's only string quartet composed in a Minor mode. Secondly, a biographical detail given by Mozart's wife, Constanze, sheds a special light on this work. According to her, the String Quartet No. 15 in D Minor, K. 421 was composed during the night she gave birth to their first child, Raimund Leopold. Through the story of this outstanding quartet, the movie director Raymond Saint-Jean unveils key aspects of the composer's intimate life

1 edition published in 1998 in English and held by 26 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A tribute to Antonin Dvorák, one of the great composers of the late 19th century. As the old saying goes, every Czech has a violin in his cradle. Antonin Dvořák do not depart from this rule. Born into a humble family settled in Nelahozeves, a village near Prague, Antonín Dvořák left school at the age of 11 to learn his father's trades, butcher and innkeeper. Thankfully, Antonín's precocious musical gifts are quickly noticed, and the young boy is sent to study at his uncles's place in Zlonice, then to Prague from 1857 onwards. Yet, Antonin Dvořák remained totally unknown to his peers until Brahms noticed the young composer, then in his thirties, and helped him in publishing his works. Since then, Dvořák's career was launched. He soon obtained an international fame and became in his lifetime a Major figure on the musical scene. In this programme, documentary vignettes are interwoven with music and dance tableaux shot among fairylike forests and countryside. These lively scenes stand as a poetic illustration of the composer's music and evoke his passion for trains and boats as well as the Slavic myths and lanscapes that inspired his works
