Bruno Heilig was an Austrian journalist, author and translator of numerous books. Two days after the Anschluss of Austria to Hitlerdeutschland, on 15 March 1938, he was arrested and brought to Dachau concentration camp with other prominent Nazi opponents. As an active and well-known anti-fascist, his chances of survival were questionable. Apparently, the SS guards did not know he was one of the most wanted of men. In September 1938 he was moved to Buchenwald. This book is the author's experiences during thirteen months' imprisonment in German concentration camps
