Ben presto, dopo un rodaggio iniziale e qualche piccolo guaio, si fa voler bene dagli abitanti della città e i suoi servizi sono molto richiesti. Ormai si è fatta anche degli amici: il panettiere e la moglie l'hanno accolta quasi come una figlia, la pittrice del bosco le fa da sorella maggiore, un'anziana signora la tratta come la nipotina che ormai non la va più a trovare, e il giovane Tombo, un ragazzo stralunato con la passione del volo, la cerca in continuazione. Diviso tra l'amore filiale e la consapevolezza della scelta sbagliata compiuta dal padre, Ray infine si allea col nonno, comprendendone gli intenti pacifisti. Dopo una battaglia che si svolge nel cuore di Londra - e mentre è in corso l'Esposizione universale - Eddie cerca di salvare la sua torre facendola decollare; ma un guasto fa sì che la gigantesca macchina rischi di abbattersi sul centro di Londra.
