Von Paris nach Erfurt und Würzburg : zum Sentenzenkommentar des Dionysius von Borgo San Sepolcro (+ 1342) ("Codex Amplonianus", UB Erfurt, Dep. Erf. CA. 2o 131) by Carolin M Oser-Grote( )

1 edition published in 2013 in German and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

[Abstract] Dionysius of Borgo San Sepolcro, Augustinian friar and bishop of Monopoli (Puglia), was influenced by the early humanism and therefore closely connected with Francesco Petrarca, Giovanni Boccaccio and Robert of Anjou. His extensive work is lost at most part, so his commentaries on Latin and Greek authors, excepted one commentary on Valerius Maximus' "Dicta et facta memorabilia" and another one on Peter Lombard's "Sentences" (written in Paris in the first half of the 14th century). This "Lectura super primum et secundum librum Sententiarum" is only preserved in the famous manuscript collection of Amplonius Rating de Bercka in Erfurt. The first part of our study focuses on the academic career of Dionysius in Italy and France until his master degree in Paris; further it concerns with Dionysius' opponents, as he was a follower of a rather traditional Aegidianism, followed by the period between his lecture of the "Sentences" until the writing down and copying of the first two books; finally this part presents the reception of the commentary. The second, more codicological part points out that in the second quarter of the 15th century the codex of Dionysius' "Lectura" denoted in its cover as "valde bone" was intentionally acquired - maybe by Amplonius himself - for the collection of the "Collegium Porta Coeli" in Erfurt which was founded by Amplonius. This way he intended the students to become acquainted with the most important academic literature presenting modern types of methodology at the same time. The last part explains the importance of Dionysius' commentary on the "Sentences" to the beginning of the "Augustinus-Institut der Deutschen Augustiner" domiciled in Würzburg, which was founded in the 1930s
