A Key West, ça tombe bien, on est déjà en plein film d'horreur. La découverte de missiles soviétiques à Cuba a déclenché une contre-offensive de la marine américaine. Les familles des militaires tremblent pour les leurs. Il règne comme une odeur de fin du monde... Une situation inespérée pour ce précurseur qui voit enfin ses théories récompensées : en offrant des sensations fortes aux spectateurs, il leur fera oublier leurs vraies angoisses ! Et quelles sensations ! A l'époque, le film d'horreur, c'est bricolage et compagnie. Les effets spéciaux font davantage rire que frémir et l'humour l'emporte de loin sur la violence. En bon élève de Roger Corman, l'un des génie du cinéma des années 60, Joe Dante, le papa des Gremlins, raconte à merveille les coulisses des films de séries B.
