15 editions published between 2005 and 2009 in English and Italian and held by 281 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book presents cutting edge techniques for characterising, quantifying and modelling geomaterial variability - in addition to methods for quantifying the influence of this variability on the performance of geotechnical structures
Cone penetration testing IV : proceedings of the 4th International Symposium on Cone Penetration Testing (CPT 2018), June 21-22, 2018, Delft, the Netherlands by Joek Peuchen( )

5 editions published in 2018 in English and Undetermined and held by 257 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"CPT18 will be held on 21 and 22 June 2018, in Delft, the Netherlands, following the previous successful symposia in Linkoping, Sweden (1995), Huntington Beach, California (2010) and Las Vegas, Nevada (2014). CPT18 will focus on the solution of geotechnical challenges using the cone penetration test CPT, CPT add-on measurements and companion in-situ penetration tools (such as full flow and free fall penetrometers), with particular emphasis on practical experience and application of research findings. As CPTs play a major role in geo-engineering, CPT18 will bring together the worlds experts who are working to improve the quality and reduce the difficulties involved. Thesymposium proceedingswill be of interest to academics, researchers, consultants, practitioners, hardware/software suppliers, certifiers and students."--Provided by publisher

Numerical Methods in Geotechnical Engineering contains the proceedings of the 8th European Conference on Numerical Methods in Geotechnical Engineering (NUMGE 2014, Delft, The Netherlands, 18-20 June 2014). It is the eighth in a series of conferences organised by the European Regional Technical Committee ERTC7 under the auspices of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE). The first conference was held in 1986 in Stuttgart, Germany and the series has continued every four years (Santander, Spain 1990; Manchester, United Kin
English political culture in the fifteenth century by Michael Hicks( Book )

17 editions published between 2002 and 2003 in English and held by 52 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"English Political Culture in the Fifteenth Century is a new and original study of how politics worked in late medieval England. It throws new light on a much-discussed period in English history. Michael Hicks explores the standards, values and principles that motivated contemporary politicians, and the aspirations and interests of both aristocracy and peasants alike." "Hicks argues that the Wars of the Roses did not result from fundamental weaknesses in the political system but from the collision of exceptional circumstances that quickly passed away. Overall, he shows that the era was one of stability and harmony, and that there were effective mechanisms for keeping the peace. Structure and continuities, Hicks argues, were more prominent than change." "Students and teachers of late medieval England will find this a key text in the area, as it covers a broad spectrum in a particularly focused way."--Jacket
The Wars of the Roses, 1455-1485 by Michael Hicks( )

3 editions published in 2003 in English and held by 36 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The Wars of the Roses raged from 1455 to 1485 - the longest period of civil war in English history. They barely affected the daily routine of the civilian population, yet for the leaders of the opposing houses of York and Lancaster, the wars were devastating. First hand accounts reveal how the lives of their women and children were blighted during three decades of war, as many of their male relatives met with violent deaths. This book examines in detail the causes, course and results of each of the main wars and concludes with a fascinating insight into why the wars ended so abruptly."--Bloomsbury Publishing
Cone penetration testing 2018 : proceedings of the 4th international symposium on cone penetration testing (CPT'18), 21-22 June, 2018, Delft, the Netherlands by International Symposium on Cone Penetration Testing( )

4 editions published in 2018 in English and Undetermined and held by 36 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Cone Penetration Testing 2018 contains the proceedings of the 4th International Symposium on Cone Penetration Testing (CPT'18, Delft, The Netherlands, 21-22 June 2018), and presents the latest developments relating to the use of cone penetration testing in geotechnical engineering. It focuses on the solution of geotechnical challenges using the cone penetration test (CPT), CPT add-on measurements and companion in-situ penetration tools (such as full flow and free fall penetrometers), with an emphasis on practical experience and application of research findings. The peer-reviewed papers have been authored by academics, researchers and practitioners from many countries worldwide and cover numerous important aspects, ranging from the development of innovative theoretical and numerical methods of interpretation, to real field applications
Modern geotechnical design codes of practice : implementation, application and development by Patrick Arnold( Book )

4 editions published between 2012 and 2013 in English and held by 24 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The ground is one of the most highly variable of engineering materials. It is therefore not surprising that geotechnical designs depend on local site conditions and local engineering experience. Engineering practices, relating to investigation and design methods (site understanding) and to safety levels acceptable to society, will therefore vary between different regions. The challenge in geotechnical engineering is to make use of worldwide geotechnical experience, established over many years, to aid in the development and harmonization of geotechnical design codes. Given the significant uncertainties involved, empiricism and engineering judgment will undoubtedly always be an essential element of geotechnical design. However, rigorous and scientific approaches based on probability theory are finding increased attention in the calibration of modern geotechnical codes of practice and these codes can and should be used to aid fundamental engineering judgment. Containing contributions on Code Implementation, Code Application and Code Development, this book provides a single resource that code developers, practitioners, and researchers can use to understand the different choices made by national code developers around the world. Furthermore, the book highlights some of the key challenges faced worldwide concerning the ongoing process of harmonizing geotechnical design code specifications
Revolution and consumption in late medieval England by M. A Hicks( Book )

Richard III by Michael Hicks( Book )

3 editions published between 2000 and 2003 in English and held by 17 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Richard III has been written off in history as one of England's evil kings. His usurpation of the throne from his nephew Edward V and then subsequent generations of pro-Tudor historians ensured his fame as the disfigured murderer portrayed by Shakespeare. In the twentieth century, Richard found his apologists, those who saw him as more sinned against than sinning. This biography -- by the leading expert on Richard -- strips away the propaganda of the centuries to rescue Richard from his critics and supporters alike, providing a balanced and compelling portrait of this most infamous of kings. Richard III and his rivals : magnates and their motives in the War of the Roses by Michael Hicks( Book )

1 edition published in 1991 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Richard III is undoubtedly the dominant personality in this collection of essays, but not in his capacity as king of England. Richard was Duke of Gloucester far longer than he was king. For most of his career, he was a subject, not a monarch, the equal of the great nobility. He is seen here in the company of his fellows: Warwick the Kingmaker, Clarence, Northumberland, Somerset, Hastings a the Wydevilles. His relations with these rivals, all of whom submitted to him or were crushed, show him in different moods and from various vantage points
